2003年10月15日北京时间9时整，中国航天员杨利伟乘坐由新型长征二号F捆绑式火箭运载的神舟五号飞船首次进入太空，并于2003年10月16日6时23分返回。
杨利伟是中国第一位飞天航天员。
继杨利伟之后，费俊龙、聂海胜、翟志刚、刘伯明、景海鹏、刘旺、刘洋（女）、张晓光、王亚平（女）、陈冬均已搭乘神舟飞船飞入太空。
