波比指出,在婴儿出生至3岁这个敏感的“依恋”期里把孩子与父母分开会对儿童日后的个性形成留下伤痕或是易导致成年后的生活中出现情感上的问题。
有人从波比的研究中得出结论:
儿童3岁前不该送日托,因为这会使孩子不得不与父母分开。
此结论确实到许多人认同,但如此肯定的结论仍存在争议。
首先,人类学家指出,现代社会中父母与孩子的爱被隔离,这样的情况在传统社会中通常并不存在。
譬如,在一些如诺戈尼的部落社会里,父母并不单独抚养婴儿——远非如此。
