Myinterestinthebuildingstructurecanbetracedbacktomysuccessinhighschoolyears,whenIexcelledmyfellowclassmatesinphysicsandgeometry.Thisnotonlyfiredoffmyinterestinstructuraldesignbutalsohelpedtolaysolidgroundworkformyundergraduatestudiesincivilengineering,whichheavilyinvolvedmechanicsinphysicsandsolidgeometry.
Withexcellentscoresinthecompulsorynationaluniversityentranceexamination,Iwonacceptancein1991intotheBeijingPolytechUniversity,oneofChina’stop10engineeringschools,particularlywell-knownforitsstructuralengineering.Forfiveyearsatthisuniversity,Ireceivedstrictandthoroughtraininginareassuchasbuildingstructures,buildingmaterials.Soilmechanicsandfoundation,concreteandmasonrystructures,construction,steelstructureandearthquakeresistantstructure.Ialsotookeveryopportunitytoparticipateinco-poworkandprojectscommissionedbyconstructionanddesigncompanies.
OpportunitiesaboundforcivilengineersandcivilengineeringstudentsinChina,whichnowhousestheworld’sfastestgrowingmajoreconomy.Ateveryyear’sjobfairheldonthecampusofthePolytechUniversity,morethan200positionscompetefor60-oddgraduatingstudents.Undersuchcircumstances,undergraduatestudentsintheirfifthyeararealsoinhighdemandforinternshipatvariousconstructioncompaniesanddesigninstitutes.Virtuallyeverystudentgetsafullworkloadimmediatelyuponstartingtheinternshipandassumesconsiderableresponsibilitiessoonafterwards.
Ibecametheluckiestamongtheluckybywinningarareopportunityforanycivilengineer:
toparticipateinthedesignoftheBeijingWesternRailwayStation,thelargesturbanstructureinChinauptodate.ThishappenedwhileIinterned,alongwithfiveotherschoolmates,attheBeijingArchitecturalInstitute.ThisinstitutehasdesignedvirtuallyallthemodernlandmarkbuildingsinChina,includingthefamousGreatHallofthePeopleandtheMuseumofRevolutionaryHistoryontheTiananmenSquare,theBeijingRailwayStationandtheAsianGamesVillage.ItwasonthestrengthofmyacademicmeritsthatIgottoenjoytheseopportunities.
TheWesternstationprojectinBeijingconsistedofthemailhall（70,000squaremeters）,southwingbuildinggroup（40,000squaremeters）andnorthwingbuildinggroup（35,000squaremeters）.Mytaskwastoassistinthedesignofashoppingcentreinthesouthwingwhichhad16,000squaremeters.Iindependentlyaccomplishedaquarterofthedesignforthewholebuilding,mainlyresponsibleforthefoundationdesign,calculationanddrawingofsteeldistributionofbeam,floor,columnsandconcretepiles.IcherishedthisopportunitytoapplytheknowledgeIhadlearnedintheclassroomtotherealworldproblemsandIworkedwithmyutmostdedication.
I,however,soonfoundoutthat,eveninthismonumentalproject,designtechniquesappliedinmanycasesleftmuchtobedesired.Whentreatingthewindload,theearthquakeforceandtheeffectoffrozensoil,historicaldataandintelligentestimateswereusedinplaceofaccuratemeasuring.Thisphenomenonmademedeterminedtoimprovemyknowledgeandskillsinagraduateprogramthatcanteachsophisticatedknow-how,suchasyours.
Itregrettablyturnedoutthatthedesignofthemailhallwasseriouslyflawed,whichdrewintensemediaattentionnationwide.Thestructuresanktwometersaftercompletion.Asexpertscontinuetohelpthecourtdeterminewhoisresponsible,Imyselfhavebeenawedbythisdramaandkeptresearchingiteversinceitbecameknown.
Mytentativeexplanation,submittedtotakeintoaccounttheundergroundwater’spowerofbuoyancy,eventhoughthestructurebasewasputbelowthewaterbed.Thestructurefloateduntilenoughloadwasmounted.Theproperconstructionmethodthereforeshouldhaveinvolvedartificialprecipitationuntilthecompletionofstructure.
Upongraduationin1996,IjoinedtheBeijingBiggestCo.,oneofthefourlargestconstructioncompaniesinChina,andimmediatelytookonmanagementdutiesasanassistantmangerattheconstructionsite.Ihavesupervisedsteelengineering,concreteengineeringandplatformengineeringfortheretwenty-threestorybuildingsintheBeijingDDresidentialarea,atotalof60,000squaremetersinapartments.Inthiscapacity,Iwascompelledtolearnmanagementskillswhichhadneverbeentaughtintheclassroom.AlthoughconstructionmanagementisnotwhatIforeseetobealifetimepursuit,Iexecutedmydutymeticulouslyandcreatively.Ibecamethefirstconstructionsitemanagerinthecompanytoconductexperimentscomparingbox-weirmaintenanceandthetraditionalmanualwateringmethod.Byusingbox-weirmethod,weakconcreteandcracksintheconcretewereeliminated.Throughtheseimportant,albeitsmall,stepsofimprovement,Ihavederivedimmensesatisfaction.
Myvigorousacademictrainingandexposuretointricatedesignproblemsandcomplexconstructionmanagementissueshasstoodmeingoodsteadprofessionallycomparedtomypeers.Myplantofurthermycareerthroughadvancedstudiesstemsfromself-confidenceinmyacademiccalibreandalsoastrongdesiretosolvedesignandconstructionproblemsencounteredatwork.IhaveresearchedyourprogrambasedonthematerialsIhaveavailabletomeanddecidedthatadvancedstudiesunderyourseasonedguidancewillbeashortcutformetoreachmygoal.Irequestthatyougivemyapplicationforadmissionandfinancialsupportfavourableconsideration.
Beingaprofessorinshanghaifinanceandeconomicsuniversity,ihadgivensixlecturestohuashengasanauditingteacherwhenshestudiedaccountancythereashersecondmajor,andhadbeenhersupervisorwhensheworkedasaninterninmycreditratingcompany.shehadlistenedtomesoattentivelythatmanyofthecaseswestudiedinclasswereappliedtoherworkeffectively.

我是财经大学会计学院的博士生导师，盛桦是我校会计专业辅修课学生，我曾担任该学生的审计学老师和实习指导老师。
她上课很用心，我讲过的很多案例，在她参与资信评估的实习时，能得到运用。
实习期间，盛桦给我留下了非常好的印象。
为了能学习更多的评估专业知识，她主动承担了更多的工作，像正式员工一样主动留下来加班。
并且不论工作难度高低，她都能尽心尽力地做好，这样的敬业精神实属难得。
她会计基础牢固，核心课程平均成绩85分，加之学习能力较强，因此实习期间她已能较好地掌握评估的一些基本业务，而这又进一步使她对会计有了更深的领悟。
25天工作日，她共参与调研了包括上海建桥学院、海航酒店集团等15家公司。
