It’snowonderthatsomeoneholdtheideathatuniversityandcollegerankinghasaseaofadvantages.Tostartwith,universityrankingdramaticallypromotesthedevelopmentofuniversityinvariousfields.Moreover,therankingisthesolestandardofmeasuringtheschool’scomprehensivelevel.Lastbutnottheleast,whenchoosingtheuniversityfortheirkids,agrowingnumberofparentstaketherankingintoaccount.

Howeverothersmaintainthatuniversityrankingalsohassomeunfavorableaspectsandmayleadtosomeundesirableconsequencessuchasacademicfraudeventodeceivepeople.

Weighingtheargumentsmentionedabove,Imaintainthatbothsideshavesomethingright,soweshouldtakeapositiveattitudetowardstheproblems,notgotoextremes.Ontheonehand,universityrankingdoesencouragethedevelopmentandgrowthofcolleges.Suchgrowth–thegrandlibraries,splendidstadiumsandfruitfulacademicachievements,hascaughttheattentionoftheworld.We’reimpressedbythesesignsofoureducation’stourtothe21stcentury.Ontheotherhand,wehavetopayattentiontoanunexpectedphenomenonthatsomepeoplehaveignoredtheobjectivityofuniversityranking.TakeSouthuniversityofscienceandtechnologyofchinaforanexample,thisuniversityoccupiesthesecondpositioninsomeuniversityrankings.Inthoserankings,itissuperiortoPekingUniversityandTsinghuauniversity.Inaword,weshouldinspiretheadvantagesofuniversityandabandonitsdisadvantages.
