Butthemoststrikingdiscoverywasthatallcultureshadmelodiescentredaroundabasetone.Forexample,startingthesongTwinkle,Twinkle,LittleStaronthenoteCmeansthatnotesinaCmajorscaleareused.Inatonalsonglikethis,thenoteCofferslistenersasenseofstabilityandfeelslike”home”一andisoftenthenoteonwhichthesongends.

Inabidtosafeguardhearing,theWorldHealthOrganizationandInternationalTelecommunicationsUnionissuedaninternationalstandardforthemanufactureanduseofaudiodevices.WHOconsidersavolumeabove85decibelsforeighthoursor100decibelsfor15minutesasunsafe.Thesafelisteningdevicesandsystemsstandardcallsfora“soundallowance”softwaretobeincludedinallaudiodevices,totrackthevolumelevelanddurationofauser’sexposuretosound,andtoevaluatetheriskposedtotheirhearing.Thissystemcouldalertauseriftheyhavedangerouslisteninghabits.
