Abstract

1.Introduction

Theprocessofthetraditionalethnicfestivalsformationisalong-termaccumulationofanation'shistoryandculture.ThereisacloseconnectionbetweentheoriginofFestivalandpeople'slivinghabitsallovertheworld.Ithasreflectedpeople'sabundantinnerfeeling,andpeople'sloveforlife.Thereisafamoussaying:

“Eachfestivalforeverynationistheshadowofthenationalcultureinthemostrealside.”

ThroughtheoriginandcustomsofChineseandwesterntraditionalfestivals,wecanseethatthereexistobviousdifferencesbetweenChinesecultureandWesternculture.Traditionalfestivalsfollowthenaturallaw:

Onthecontrary,theresearcheswhichforeignscholarsoftheculturaldifferencesbetweenChinesetraditionalfestivalsandwesterntraditionalfestivalsdidareless.MostoftheseresearchesjusttalkedaboutthesimpleintroductionanddiscussionofChinesetraditionalfestivalsandwesterntraditionalfestivals.Theirresearcheshavenotmentionoftheculturaldifferencesexistinfestivals.

1）OriginatedfromtheChristianbelief

ChristmasisaholidaycommemoratingthebirthofJesus.Christmasisalsocalled"JesusChristmas Day"and"Themainbirthday"inthecalendaryearDecember25th.AccordingtotheBible,JesusbythewillofGodwasbornin theoutsideofJerusalem Bethlehem.Jesuswastosavemankindandredeemhumansin,socomeintothisworld.Itisalsocalled“theSavioroftheworld”.Jesus'mothercalledMaria,becauseof“TheImmaculateConception”,MariabornJesus.Forastart,thechurchhasnoChristmas.Itappearedabout100yearsafterJesusascendedtoheaven.Itissaid:

SaintValentine'sDayisafamoustraditionalfestival.ItcomesfromanoldstoryinthirdCentury.TheemperorofRomethinksthatthemarriedmendon'twanttoleavehometobebeasoldier.Therefore,heissuedaprohibitionofmarriagelaw.However,BishopSanctusValentineagainsttheemperor’swillholdtheweddingsecretlyforyoungpeople.HewasimprisonedanddeadinprisoninFebruary14thAD273.AfterfourteenthCentury,peoplebeganusinghisnametocommemoratethisday.ButhistoriansbelievethatValentine'sDayoriginatedfromthefestivalofLupercaliainancientRome.

InancientRome,peoplewouldholdagrandceremonytocelebratethefestivalofLupercaliainFebruary15theveryyear.Intheworshipofthegods,LupercusisinchargeoftheprotectionofanimalhusbandryGodofshepherdsandsheep.Inthecorrespondingcalendarandthecorrespondingsolarterm,TheLupercaliafestivalisacelebrationofthecomingofspring.However,somepeoplesaidthatthisfestivalisacelebrationofancientRomeGodFaunus.ThereasonoftheworshipofhimaroundRomeisthatFaunuswillblesstheharvestofagricultureandanimalhusbandry.WithRome'sexpansioninEurope,thefestivalofLupercaliawasbroughttothe
