testsuccesswasTheGreatGatsby,publishedin1925,whichquicklybroughthimpraisefromtheliteraryworld.Yetitfailedtogivehimtheneededfinancialsecurity.Then,in1926,hepublishedanothercollectionofshortstoriesAlltheSadYoungMen.

However,Fitzgerald’sproblemswithhiswifeZeldaaffectedhiswriting.Duringthe1920shetriedtoreorderhislife,butfailed.By1930,hiswifehadherfirstbreakdownandwenttoaSwissclinic.DuringthisperiodhecompletednovelsTenderIstheNightin1934andTheLoveoftheLastTycoonin1940.WhilehiswifewasinhospitalintheUnitedStates,hegottotallyaddictedtoalcohol.SheilaGraham,hisdearfriend,helpedhimfighthisalcoholism.
