KristinJarmundArchitectsincollaborationwithC.F.MøllerArchitects,hasrecentlywonamajorcompetitiontodesignaspectacularnewlandmarkprojectinthecityofOslo,fortheclientKLPEiendomAS,oneofNorway’slargestpropertyinvestors.Theproject,whichhasbeendubbed“CrystalClear”,consistsofthreetowers,whichgroworganicallyfromthegroundtoformasculpturalcluster,andarecomposedofstacked,prismaticvolumes.

Thedevelopmenttotalsapprox.90,000m²ofoffices,commercialspaceandpossiblyhousing,locatedatoneofOslo’smostvaluablesites,theformerpostalsortingofficeadjacenttothecentralstation.‘CrystalClear’tiesinwiththecity’sskyline,andthestringofdevelopinglandmarkprojectsthatwillhelpturnOslointooneofEurope’smostmoderncapitals.

Ahigh-risedevelopment,locatedatNorway’smostimportanttraffichubincentralOslo,andwithfantasticviewsofthewaterfrontandfjord-landscapebeyond.Theideaistocreatealandmarksculpturalensembleoftowers,yetobservetheharmonywiththesurrounding,low-riseurbanfabricofthecapital.Thethreetowersofapprox.110,65and55mheight,arearrangedalongtheedgesofthesite,andthetallesttowerisalignedwiththeexistingnearbyOsloPlazaandPostgirobyggettowers,whilethelowerbuildingsformthelinktothecity.

Thethreetowershaveclear-cutandverticalelevationstotheexteriorofthesite,withlargeopeningsandsetbacksformingwindowstoselectedviewpoints.Incontrast,theelevationstowardstheinteriorofthesitearecomposedofstacked,glazedvolumes,freelyarrangedtoformaprismaticandcrystallineappearance.Thelayoutsecurestheviewsoverthewater,notonlyforthethreenewbuildingsbutalsothecitybeyond.

Inbetweenthetowers,atwo-storybasecontainingshopsandrestaurantsformsanundulatinglandscapethatconnectstostreetlevelviaramps,plateausandstairs.Thisbasecreatesacalmurbangarden,framedbythetallbuildings,withrecreationalspaceandcafesforthecityandthebuildingsoccupants.Thetowersaredesignedwithahighdegreeofflexibilitytohouseoffices,hotelsandpossiblyhousing.
