GoingtoaBritishhighschoolforoneyearwasaveryenjoyableandexcitingexperienceforme.IwasveryhappywiththeschoolhoursinBritainbecauseschoolstartsaround9a.m.andendsabout3.30p.m.ThismeansIcouldgetupanhourlaterthanusualasschoolsinChinabeginbefore8a.m.
Onthefirstday,allofthenewstudentsattendedanassemblyintheschoolhall.IsatnexttoagirlwhosenamewasDiana.Wesoonbecamebestfriends.Duringtheassembly,theheadmastertoldusabouttherulesoftheschool.Healsotoldusthatthebestwaytoearnrespectwastodevoteourselvestostudyandachievehighgrades.ThissoundedlikemyschoolinChina.
Ihadmanyteachersinthepastyear.MrHeywood,myclassteacher,wasveryhelpful.MyfavouriteteacherwasMissBurke—IlovedthelessonsthatshegaveinEnglishLiterature.Inourclasstherewere28students.ThisisabouttheaveragesizeforBritishschools.Wehadtomovetodifferentclassroomsfordifferentclasses.Wealsohaddifferentstudentsinsomeclasses,soitwasstruggleformetorememberallthefacesandnames.
IfoundthatthehomeworkwasnotasheavyaswhatIusedtogetinmyoldschool.However,itwasabitchallengingformeatfirst,becauseallthehomeworkwasinEnglish.Ifeltlucky,asallmyteachersgavememuchencouragementandIenjoyedallmysubjects:
English,History,EnglishLiterature,ComputerScience,Maths,Science,PE,Art,CookingandFrench.

MyEnglishimprovedalot,asIusedEnglisheverydayandspentanhoureachdayreadingEnglishbooksinthelibrary.IusuallywenttotheComputerClubduringthelunchbreak,soIcouldsende-mailstomyfamilyandfriendsbackhomeforfree.IalsohadanextraFrenchclassonTuesdayevenings.CookingwasreallyfunasIlearnthowtobuy,prepareandcookfood.Attheendoftermweheldaclasspartyandweallhadtocooksomething.IwasgladthatallmyclassmatesfondofthecakethatImade.
StudentsatthatschoolhavetostudyMaths,EnglishandScience,butcanstopstudyingsomesubjectsiftheydonotlikethem,forexample,HistoryandFrench.TheycanchooseothersubjectslikeArtandComputerScience,orLanguagessuchasSpanishandGerman.IntheArtclassthatItook,Imadeasmallsculpture.Thoughitdidnotlookverybeautifulwhenitwasfinished,Istilllikeditverymuch.
ImissedChinesefoodalotatlunch.Britishfoodisverydifferent.Britishpeoplelikeeatingdessertsattheendoftheirmainmeal.Afterlunch,weusuallyplayedontheschoolfield.SometimesIplayedfootballwiththeboys.SometimesIjustrelaxedunderatreeorsatonthegrass.
Iwasveryluckytoexperiencethisdifferentwayoflife.IlookbackonmytimeintheUKwithsatisfaction,andIreallyhopetogobackandstudyinManchesteragain.

Aftergraduatingfromuniversity,hewenttoChinatostudyChineseatBeijingLanguageandCultureUniversity.Twoyearslater,hewasabletospeakfluentChinese.Uponfinishinghisstudies,hestartedtravellinginChina.SomeofthecitiesinChinawhichhelikesmostareBeijing,Shanghai,HarbinandNanjing.InChinahedevelopedaninterestinteachingEnglishtoChinesestudents.Mostofthestudentswhomhetaughthavebecomehisfriends.
WhenhereturnedtoBritaintwomonthsago,hebroughtbackfromChinamanyinterestingbooks,dictionaries,paintingsandphotos.Hedonatedmostofthemtoourschoollibrary.SomeofthebooksweregiftsthathegotfromhisChinesefriendsandstudents.ThepaintingsthatDaviddonatedtotheschoolarebeingshownintheexhibitionroom.TeachersandstudentsatourschoolwishtothankDavidforhiskindness.
Nextmonthwewillhaveourschoolopenday.WehaveinvitedDavidtobeoneofourguestspeakers.HewillmakeaspeechabouthissplendidexperiencesinChina.Thespeechisgoingtobeat3p.m.on9October.Attheendofhisspeech,therewillbe30minutesforquestionsandanswers.So,ifyouareinterestedinknowingmoreaboutChina,youmustn’tmissthechancetomeetDavidattheopenday.

Itwasstartedtwoyearsago.Oneday,Ijustbeganthinkingaboutmusicforeveryone,soIaskedtheheadmasterifmusiccouldbeplayedduringbreaktimes.Heapprovedtheidea,andtwoyearslaterIaminchargeoftheradioclubastheoldeststudentmember.Ourclubismuchmorethanjustmusic.Everymorningwetellourschoolmatesabouttheweather,recentnews,andsomespecialmessagesthattheteacherswantustobroadcast.
Duringexamtimewehaveaspecialprogrammethattellsstudentsthethingstheyshoulddoforpreparation.Attheendoftheschoolyear,manystudentswhoaregraduatinguseourclubtogivemessagestotheirclosefriendsandteachers.
Whenparentscometovisittheschoolandtalktotheteachers,weoftenplaysongssungbystudents,andwealsogivemessagestoinformtheparentsofeventssuchasoutingsandschoolplays.
