Tetra,arhesusmonkeybornin1999,istheworld’sfirstever-clonedmonkey,butitwasdoneusingasimplermethodcalledembryosplitting,anditcouldonlyproducefourclonedbabiesatatimeandcannotbegeneticallychangedtosuitexperimentalneeds,saidPuMuming,anacademicianattheChineseAcademyofSciencesandthedirectorofInstituteofNeuroscience,CAS.
“Cloningamonkeyusingsomaticcellshasbeenaworld-classchallengebecauseitisaprimate(灵长类)thatsharesitsgeneticmakeup,thereforeallofitscomplexity,withhumans,”hesaid.
