TheABCtelevisionnetworkoffered$5millioninloansandinvestmentsifDisneyagreedtoproduceandhostaone-hourweeklyshowcalled“Disneyland”.ThedealamountedtomonthsoffreeadvertisingfortheparkandallowedDisneytointroduceTVaudiences,particularlykids,tothepark.

Disneylandopenedthen.The5,000expectedguestsincreasedto28,154,thankstofaketickets.Afterthemadnessofopeningday,Disneyandhisnewparkwerecriticizedinthepress.Themediapredictedaquickandearlyend.Butthepublicdidn’tlisten.Visitorsarrivedinlargegroups,andwithinweeksDisneylandwasasuccess.

Oversixtyyearslater,Disneyland’spopularitycontinuestogrow,withtotaloverallattendancetopping700millionandshowingnosignsofslowingdown.
