5、2 Limitations and Expectation 23Bibliography 24Acknowledgments 26摘要面对着在特定情况下涌现的大量网络流行词汇,翻译者和学者越来越重视汉语网络词汇和其翻译的研究。然而, 由于缺乏相关的理论依据,加之有关汉语网络流行词汇英译研究的书籍和文章不多,导致在汉语网络词汇的英译过程中 存在显著的问题。网络流行词汇的误译主要是两个因素:其一是网络流行词汇本身固有的文化特性会给英译带来许多困难;其二是缺乏统一标准或理论指导导致一词多译现象。因此,本论文以奈达的功能对等翻译理论作为理论框架,提出了几种可行的翻译策略。同时,本文指出在翻译目的不同,

6、翻译情景各异的情况下,译者应该灵活应用翻译策略以便更好的实现与西方国家间的跨文化交流。关键词:汉语网络流行词;功能对等理论;翻译策略;存在问题AbstractFacing the great quantity of Chinese online buzzwords emerging under certain circumstances, translators and scholars attach great importance to the study on Chinese online buzzword and its translation. However, because of

7、 the shortage of enough relevant theories and the lack of books and articles related to the research on C-E translation of Chinese online buzzwords, there are still many considerable problems in the process of translation. The main reasons for the failures in the translation of Chinese online buzzwo

8、rds refer to two key factors: one is the characteristics of Chinese online buzzwords, which bring us lots of difficulties in translating. Another factor is that there is no standard translation guidance or principle for us to follow, which leads to the various translated versions of the same word. T

9、herefore, this paper puts forward translation strategies by taking E. A. Nidas functional equivalence theory as the theoretical framework. Meanwhile, the thesis emphasizes that translators should employ flexibly the translation strategies to serve different translation situations in order to do bett

These hot online words not only spread rapidly among various websites but also are used widely in peoples daily life, even appear in chinas authoritative newspapers.As we can see, Chinese online buzzwords has became a mirror

Translating Chinese online buzzwords into english is a concerned new task for scholars and translators.1.2 Purpose and Significance With the rising of chinas status in the world, more and more western people become interested in what is happening in china

Under such circumstances, making a reasonable and acceptable translation for foreign countries can promote cross-cultural c

16、ommunication as well as enrich Chinese unique vocabularies.Besides, a great many netizens actively discuss the C-E translation of online buzzwords, therefore many words can find their english versions on the internet. However, according to authors research, some Chinese buzzwords have more than one

17、english versions and there are lots of mistranslation, too simple literal translation in the translation process. So the study of translating Chinese online buzzwords into english from the perspective of the equivalence theory has its practical significance. The equivalence theory offers the most ad

18、equate feasible rules and principles which are perfect to our translation. Whats more, it can enrich the current study on the translation theory. Therefore, the research content is of important application value both in theory and practice.This paper aims to translators deal better with the emerging

19、 Chinese online buzzwords.1.3 Research MethodsThe paper tries to select the most impressive and representative Chinese online buzzwords in the nearly several years as objects of the study, what are seen from famous dictionaries such as Chinese-English Buzzwords Dictionaries (Li Xuemei, 2010: 1451)1,

20、 newspapers such as China Daily, Peoples Daily, magazines such as English Language Learning, Chinese Translators Journal, and radio and television media such as CCTV NEWS, VOA, BBC, as well as what are searched from well-known English learning websites, such as WWW. , Besides, the translation method

21、s of Chinese online buzzwords under functional equivalence theory are also included.This paper analyzes, classifies the Chinese online buzzwords involving in politics, economics, culture, entertainment and social life. In addition, the author takes the equivalence theory as the theoretical framework

22、, formulating its core content. Methods of analyzing, antitheses and exemplification are adopted in this paper. The author also pay attention to the combination of systematic observation and detailed exploration to study the topic.1.4 Thesis StructureThis thesis adopts the structural pattern of “pro

23、blem-solution”, based on a given theory directing the whole study and is composed of five parts, including the introductory part, body part and concluding part. The detailed structure of this thesis is presented as follows:In the introductory part, it gives a brief introduction to the study, includi

24、ng background, significance and purpose, the methods as well as the organization of the thesis.In the body part, three sections are to be written. Chinese online buzzwords, the equivalence theory and Chinese net buzzwords translation based on the functional equivalence are to be included.The Chinese

25、 online buzzwords section will give the definition, features and classification of Chinese online buzzwords.“the equivalence theory” section starts to deal with the theory adopted in the current study, namely, the functional equivalence theory and the principles needed in translation according to th

26、e theory.In the section of Chinese net buzzwords translation based on the functional equivalence, it is to present the problems in translating Chinese online buzzwords into English and the strategies of properly translating Chinese online buzzwords into English according to the requirements of funct

27、ional equivalence theory.In the concluding part, it gives an overall picture about the paper. This part presents requirement for translators in the process of translating Chinese online buzzwords and then the limitation and the further expectation of the study.2 Chinese Online BuzzwordsThe study on

28、Chinese online buzzwords has taken a long time since the network has become an important communication tool for people to communicate with each other in the virtual world. The author collected essays concerning this topic, which mostly come from professional core journals such as Chinese Translators

29、 Journal, Shanghai Journal of Translators and Chinese S&T translators journal as well as some essays from university journals. Nearly all the essays about Chinese online buzzwords are found to focus on te following topics: the formulation and influence of online catchwords; the views on internet sla

30、ngs and the translation of Chinese online hot words. For example, an article from JOURNAL OF LANZHOU INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION (Tang Jinlian, 2012)2 explore and discuss the translation methods directly. These articles offer reference value for later scholars as well as their own research achievement. H

31、owever, some dissertations dont analyze in depth. Whats more, the definition of Chinese online buzzwords is a controversial topic in the linguistic circle. Therefore, this chapter aims to present a concise introduction to Chinese online buzzwords, including its definition, characteristics and classification.2.1 Definition of Chinese Online Words As to the definition of net catchwords, many linguists and social scientists use different terms to express in their linguistic studies so that they have not made an unified conclusion until today.
