(关于你要跟Patrick合并的事情你一个字都没提过。)这里的翻译是意译,我们可以看出来make an offer是出价的意思。而在本电影的台词里,这个make an offer的意思显然不同,应该是求婚的

9、意思。offer一词本身就有求婚的意思,所以向某人求婚我们可以说propose to sb. 或者make an offer to sb. 3. put paid to 结束,了结(口语) 这是一个挺有意思的短语,If an unexpected event puts paid to someones hopes, chances, or plans, it completely ends or destroys them. 主要在说英式英语的国家中使用。 The series of terrible blind dates put paid to her dream of an ideal

17、Elizabeth: It is a small kind of accomplishment, I suppose. Caroline: Will you not join us, Mr. Darcy? Darcy: You can only have two motives, Caroline, and I would interfere with either. Caroline: What can he mean? Elizabeth: The surest way of disappointing him will be to ask him nothing about it. Ca

Darcy: Either you are in each others confidence and you have secret affairs to discuss, or you are conscious that your figures appear to the greatest advantage by walking.
