妙词佳句，活学活用
1.adore
Adore有好几种意思，我们一起来看一下：
A.Ifyouadoresomeone,youfeelgreatloveandadmirationforhimorher.敬爱，敬重；爱慕
e.g.Sheadoredherparentsandwoulddoanythingtopleasethem.
B.Ifyouadoresomething,youlikeitverymuch.非常喜欢，痴迷
e.g.Iadoreappleverymuchandeattwoaday.
2.makeanoffer
这是口语中很常用的词组，其意义取决于作为名词的offer一词的不同含义，如在电影《情归巴黎》中有一句台词是：
YouneversaidawordaboutplanningtomakeanoffertoPatrick.（关于你要跟Patrick合并的事情你一个字都没提过。
）
这里的翻译是意译，我们可以看出来makeanoffer是"出价"的意思。
而在本电影的台词里，这个makeanoffer的意思显然不同，应该是"求婚"的意思。
offer一词本身就有"求婚"的意思，所以"向某人求婚"我们可以说proposetosb.或者makeanoffertosb.
3.putpaidto结束……，了结……（口语）
这是一个挺有意思的短语，Ifanunexpectedeventputspaidtosomeone'shopes,chances,orplans,itcompletelyendsordestroysthem.主要在说英式英语的国家中使用。
Theseriesofterribleblinddatesputpaidtoherdreamofanidealmarriage.
一系列可怕的相亲断送了她对理想婚姻的梦想。
4.endup/endupwith以……结束，以……告终
Ifyouendupdoingsomethingorendupinaparticularstate,youdothatthingorgetintothatstateeventhoughyoudidnotoriginallyintendto.
e.g.Everytimetheywentdancingtheyendedupinabadmood.
他们每次出去跳舞都不欢而散。
Shecouldhaveendedupamillionairess.
她本来可以成为一个百万富翁的。

妙词佳句，活学活用
1.itfallstosb.'slottodosth./thelotfallstosb.todosth./itfallstosb.assb.'slottodosth.是"某人命中注定要做某事；某人有责任做某事"的意思。
e.g.Itfallstomylottojointhearmy.
参军是我有责任要做的事。
Itfallstotheyounggirl'slottomarrythisoldman.
嫁给这个老头是这个女孩命里注定的。
2.doteon
Ifyousayyoudoteonapersonorathing,itmeansyouloveorcareaboutthemverymuchandignoreanyfaultstheymayhave.中文里就是"宠爱，溺爱；过分喜爱"。
比如"她溺爱她的儿子"就可以说成Shedotesonheryoungestson.
3.accomplished多才多艺的；熟练的；完成的
说到“多才多艺”，大家马上想到词的可能是versatile，accomplished这个词比versatile还要高一个等级，差不多到了专家的程度，而versatile多用来指“能胜任……”。
例如：
anaccomplishedlady一个才女
anaccomplishedpianist有造诣的钢琴家
anaccomplishedfacts不容争辩的事实
4.get/standinone'sway/beintheway
这是口语里特别常用的词组，意思是“挡路，妨碍”。
我们来看两个例子：
e.g.
1）Keepongoingwithyourreading.Don'tletmestandinyourway.
2）You'reintheway,wouldyoupleasemoveaside?

小说《傲慢与偏见》开篇的一段话可称为经典，在当今社会也是有一定道理的：
