1.adore

Adore有好几种意思,我们一起来看一下:

A.Ifyouadoresomeone,youfeelgreatloveandadmirationforhimorher.敬爱,敬重;爱慕

e.g.Sheadoredherparentsandwoulddoanythingtopleasethem.

B.Ifyouadoresomething,youlikeitverymuch.非常喜欢,痴迷

e.g.Iadoreappleverymuchandeattwoaday.

2.makeanoffer

这是口语中很常用的词组,其意义取决于作为名词的offer一词的不同含义,如在电影《情归巴黎》中有一句台词是:

YouneversaidawordaboutplanningtomakeanoffertoPatrick.(关于你要跟Patrick合并的事情你一个字都没提过。

这里的翻译是意译,我们可以看出来makeanoffer是"出价"的意思。

而在本电影的台词里,这个makeanoffer的意思显然不同,应该是"求婚"的意思。

offer一词本身就有"求婚"的意思,所以"向某人求婚"我们可以说proposetosb.或者makeanoffertosb.

3.putpaidto结束……,了结……(口语)

这是一个挺有意思的短语,Ifanunexpectedeventputspaidtosomeone'shopes,chances,orplans,itcompletelyendsordestroysthem.主要在说英式英语的国家中使用。

Theseriesofterribleblinddatesputpaidtoherdreamofanidealmarriage.

一系列可怕的相亲断送了她对理想婚姻的梦想。

4.endup/endupwith以……结束,以……告终

Ifyouendupdoingsomethingorendupinaparticularstate,youdothatthingorgetintothatstateeventhoughyoudidnotoriginallyintendto.

e.g.Everytimetheywentdancingtheyendedupinabadmood.

他们每次出去跳舞都不欢而散。

Shecouldhaveendedupamillionairess.

她本来可以成为一个百万富翁的。

1.itfallstosb.'slottodosth./thelotfallstosb.todosth./itfallstosb.assb.'slottodosth.是"某人命中注定要做某事;某人有责任做某事"的意思。

e.g.Itfallstomylottojointhearmy.

参军是我有责任要做的事。

Itfallstotheyounggirl'slottomarrythisoldman.

嫁给这个老头是这个女孩命里注定的。

2.doteon

Ifyousayyoudoteonapersonorathing,itmeansyouloveorcareaboutthemverymuchandignoreanyfaultstheymayhave.中文里就是"宠爱,溺爱;过分喜爱"。

比如"她溺爱她的儿子"就可以说成Shedotesonheryoungestson.

3.accomplished多才多艺的;熟练的;完成的

说到“多才多艺”,大家马上想到词的可能是versatile,accomplished这个词比versatile还要高一个等级,差不多到了专家的程度,而versatile多用来指“能胜任……”。

例如:

anaccomplishedlady一个才女

anaccomplishedpianist有造诣的钢琴家

anaccomplishedfacts不容争辩的事实

4.get/standinone'sway/beintheway

这是口语里特别常用的词组,意思是“挡路,妨碍”。

我们来看两个例子:

2)You'reintheway,wouldyoupleasemoveaside?
