JohnF.Kennedy(1917-1963)wasthe35thpresidentoftheUSA.HewastheyoungestmanandthefirstRomanCatholictobeelectedpresident(1960).HisgreatesttriumphinforeignaffairswasthesigningoftheNuclearTest-BanTreatybytheUS,GreatBritain,andtheSovietUnionin1963.Thesignatoriesagreedtostopalltestingofnuclearweaponsintheatmosphere,inouterspace,andunderwater,thuspermittingonlyundergroundtests,whichdidnotcontaminatetheatmosphere.Withinafewmonths,morethan100othernationssignedthetreaty.

Latein1963,inpreparationforthecomingyear’spresidentialelection,Kbeganaseriesoftripstovariouspartsofthecountry.OnNov.22,1963,KandotherswereontheirwaytoaluncheonindowntownDallas,Texas.Asthemotorcadeapproachedanunderpassat12.30p.m.,twofatalshotswerefiredinrapidsuccession.OnebulletpassedthroughK’sneckandtheotherstruckthepresidentinthehead.KfellforwardandhiscarspedtoParklandHospital.At1.00p.m.,hewaspronounceddead.

L.H.Oswald,employedinthewarehousefromwhichthebulletthatkilledKwasfired,wasconferredasthesuspectintheassassinationHewasarrestedthatafternooninaDallasmovietheaterandchargedwithmurder.

Twodayslater,asL.H.Oswaldwastransferredfromonejailtoanother,hewasshotdeadbyJ.Ruby,whosprangoutfromagroupofnewsmen.Thisveryscenewasphotographedbyanewsmanonthespot.

It’sapitytheinvestigationcommissionfoundnoevidencethateitherL.H.OorJ.Rwaspartofanyconspiracy,domesticorforeign,toassassinatePresidentKennedy.
