Historicalbackground

StandardsandRecommendedPracticesrelatingtometeorologywerefirstadoptedbytheCouncilon16April1948,pursuanttotheprovisionsofArticle37oftheConventiononInternationalCivilAviation(Chicago,1944),anddesignatedasAnnex3totheConventionwiththetitleStandardsandRecommendedPractices—MeteorologicalCodes.TheStandardsandRecommendedPracticeswerebasedonrecommendationsoftheSpecialSessionoftheMeteorologyDivision,heldinSeptember1947.

TableAshowstheoriginofsubsequentamendments,togetherwithalistoftheprincipalsubjectsinvolvedandthedatesonwhichtheAnnexandtheamendmentswereadoptedorapprovedbytheCouncil,whentheybecameeffectiveandwhentheybecameapplicable.
