　　aninterestinglegendrelatedtothetemplegoesthatawhitehorsecarriedthefirstbuddhistscriptfromindiahereinancienttimehencethenamewhitehorsetemple.historyrecordsthatthesitewasoriginaltheplaceusedbythesecondhanemperor-liuzhuangasasummerresortandforstudy.in68ad,whenbuddhismreacheditsheydayinindia,twoindianmonksbroughtbuddhistscripturestoluoyangonthebackofawhitehorse.theemperor,whowasadevoutbuddhismbeliever,builtthetempletohousethescripturesandnameditwhitehorsetemple.itwassaidthattherewereoncethousandsofmonkslivinginthetemple.itwasevenusedasarefugeesanctuaryduringthesocialturmoilofwangmangintheeasternhandynasty.

　　attheendofguanlinnanlu,guanlintemplewasbuilttocommemoratethegreatgeneralguanyuofthestateofshuduringthethreekingdomsperiod.intheromanceofthreekingdoms,theshugeneralguanyuwasdefeated,capturedandexecutedbysunquan,therulerofthestateofwu.fearingrevengefromguanyu’sbloodbrotherliubeiwhowastherulerofthestateofshu,sunquanorderedtosendguanyu’sheadtocaocao-rulerofweiinanattempttodeflecttheresponsibilityforthedeath.caocao,however,wasanadmirerofguan'sloyaltyandbravery.heorderedawoodenbodybecarvedtoaccompanytheheadbeforeguanyuwasburied.

theundergroundandabovegroundparts.theabovegroundpartcontainsahan-stylegate,somehalls.tombmodelsfromthestoneagetothehandynasty,restoredfuneraryobjectsandfuneralritualsaredisplayedintheeasternhall.
