ChekhovoftenwroteaboutthesufferingsoflifeinsmalltownRussia.Tragiceventscontrolledhischaracterswhowerefilledwithfeelingsofhopelessnessanddespair.

ItisoftensaidthatnothinghappensinChekhov'sstoriesandplays.Hemadeupforthiswithhisexcitingtechniquefordevelopingdramawithinhischaracters.Chekhov'sworkscombinedthecalmattitudeofascientistanddoctorwiththesensitivity(敏感)odanartist.
