Accordingtothestudy,Australianfathersappeartolikethefunaspectsofparenthood,butshyawayfromtheboringhousework.Sowhiletheytendtobehappytakingthekidstotheparkortosportingevents,theyareunlikelytoparticipateregularlyinfeeding,bathing,ortakingthekidstoschool.Inshort,Australianparentingisseenasawoman’sjobandaman’shobby.

Manypeoplebelievethatthelast20yearshaveseenarrivaloftheso-called“newman”-themanwhoiswillingtosharethehouseworkandchildcare.Thenewmanhasapictureofhischildrenonhiscomputerdesktopatwork;henevermissesthekids’schoolplays,andheskipsadrinkatthebarafterworksothathecangethomeintimetoreadbedtimestorytotheirkids.

Accordingtothestudy,middle-agedpeoplewhohavechildrenoftheirowntaketheirfilialdutiesmoreseriously.Also,marriedwomenknowbetterthanmentheneedforthiskindoflovingcare.
