AnothertechnologybeingtrialedisCatchScanner.Itproducesa3Dcolorimageofthefish,whichisanalyzedusingAItoestimatetheweightandidentifythespecies.CatchScannercanalsohelptacklerule-breaking;

somefishingboatscatchmorefishthanEUquotas(限额)allow,aswellasfishofthewrongsizeandspecies.CatchScannercanpreventthisbyautomaticallycollectingcatchinformationinadatabaseandmakingitavailabletoauthoritiessuchasnationalcoast-guardagencies.

Researcherscollectedatotalof471videoclipsfromtwosocialgroupsofchimpsatashelternearKinshasa,DemocraticRepublicofCongo.Aswellasidentifyingwhatthegesturemeans,theyalsodiscoveredthetechniqueneededtoincreasethechancesofsuccess.

“Humanchildrenusegesturestocommunicatebeforetheyproducetheirfirstwords,andtheirearliestgesturestypicallyappeararound10monthsofage,”explainedtheresearchers.“Ingreatapes,thereisgoodevidencethatlanguage-trainedindividualsarecapableofacquiringandunderstandingsignals,butthisisfarlessclearintheirnaturalcommunication.”
