Everystatereported above-averageannualtemperatures.ThewarmingwasparticularlypronouncedacrossmostoftheeasternhalfofthecountryinDecember,whenmanyplacessawtemperatures30degreesabovenormalandmanyrecordswereset. ThismirroredchangesseenintheArcticthatmonth,whentemperaturesspikedto50degreesabovenormal.PartofthiswarmingwasdrivenbyastrongElNiño,orperiodicwarminginthePacificOcean,butsomeofitcanalsobeattributedtoglobalwarming,saysmeteorologistEricHolthaus,whowasnotinvolvedwiththefederalreport. 

Theanalysis comeslessthanamonthaftertheU.S.and194othercountriessignedanagreementinParistomoreaggressivelycountertheeffects ofclimatechange.
