　　"Onmyorders,coalitionforceshavebegunstrikingselectedtargetsofmilitaryimportancetoundermineSaddamHussein'sabilitytowagewar.Theseareopeningstagesofwhatwillbeabroadandconcertedcampaign."

　　Morethan35countriesaregivingcrucialsupport,fromtheuseofnavalandairbases,tohelpwithintelligenceandlogistics,tothedeploymentofcombatunits.Everynationinthiscoalitionhaschosentobearthedutyandsharethehonorofservinginourcommondefense.

　　"ToallofthemenandwomenoftheUnitedStatesarmedforcesnowintheMiddleEast,thepeaceofatroubledworldandthehopesofanoppressedpeoplenowdependonyou."Thattrustiswellplaced.

　　"Theenemiesyouconfrontwillcometoknowyourskillandbravery.ThepeopleyouliberatewillwitnessthehonorableanddecentspiritoftheAmericanmilitary.

　　"Inthisconflict,Americafacesanenemywhohasnoregardforconventionsofwarorrulesofmorality.SaddamHusseinhasplacedIraqitroopsandequipmentincivilianareas,attemptingtouseinnocentmen,womenandchildrenasshieldsforhisownmilitary;afinalatrocityagainsthispeople."IwantAmericansandalltheworldtoknowthatcoalitionforceswillmakeeveryefforttospareinnocentciviliansfromharm.AcampaignontheharshterrainofanationaslargeasCaliforniacouldbelongerandmoredifficultthansomepredict.AndhelpingIraqisachieveaunited,stableandfreecountrywillrequireoursustainedcommitment.

　　"WecometoIraqwithrespectforitscitizens,fortheirgreatcivilizationandforthereligiousfaithstheypractice.WehavenoambitioninIraq,excepttoremoveathreatandrestorecontrolofthatcountrytoitsownpeople."Iknowthatthefamiliesofourmilitaryareprayingthatallthosewhoservewillreturnsafelyandsoon.

　　"MillionsofAmericansareprayingwithyouforthesafetyofyourlovedonesandfortheprotectionoftheinnocent."Foryoursacrifice,youhavethegratitudeandrespectoftheAmericanpeopleandyoucanknowthatourforceswillbecominghomeassoonastheirworkisdone."Ournationentersthisconflictreluctantly,yetourpurposeissure.ThepeopleoftheUnitedStatesandourfriendsandallieswillnotliveatthemercyofanoutlawregimethatthreatensthepeacewithweaponsofmassmurder.

　　"WewillmeetthatthreatnowwithourArmy,AirForce,Navy,CoastGuardandMarines,sothatwedonothavetomeetitlaterwitharmiesoffirefightersandpoliceanddoctorsonthestreetsofourcities."Nowthatconflicthascome,theonlywaytolimititsdurationistoapplydecisiveforce.AndIassureyou,thiswillnotbeacampaignofhalfmeasuresandwewillacceptnooutcomebutvictory.

　　"Myfellowcitizens,thedangerstoourcountryandtheworldwillbeovercome.Wewillpassthroughthistimeofperilandcarryontheworkofpeace.Wewilldefendourfreedom.Wewillbringfreedomtoothers.Andwewillprevail.

　　同胞们，我们已经开始了对伊拉克的军事行动，我们要解除伊拉克的武装，解放伊拉克的人民，避免世界陷入危险。
