后来兔子说:

”就跃入烈火中,将自己烧熟,神仙大受感动,把兔子送到月宫内,成了玉兔。
陪伴嫦娥,并捣制长生不老药。

汉朝时有个叫吴刚的人,醉心于仙道而不专心学习,因此天帝震怒,把他居留在月宫,令他在月宫伐桂树,并说:
“如果你砍倒桂树,就可获仙术。
”但吴刚每砍一斧,斧起而树创伤就马上愈合,日复一日,吴刚伐桂的愿望仍未达成,因此吴刚在月宫常年伐桂,始终砍不倒这棵树,因而后世的人得以见到吴刚在月中无休无止砍伐月桂的形象。

民间中秋赏月活动约始魏晋时期,但未成习。
到了唐代,中秋赏月、玩月颇为盛行,许多诗人的名篇中都有咏月的诗句。
待到宋时,形成了以赏月活动为中心的中秋民俗节日,正式定为中秋节。
