Intheirexperiments.thetworesearchersusedalaser(激光)toheatupspotsonthewingsofdozensofbutterflyspecies.Whenthetemperatureoftheareaunderthelaserreached40℃orso,theinsectsrespondedwithinsecondsbydoingthingsthatstoppedtheirwingsheatingupfurther.Theseactionsincludedabutterflyturningaroundtominimizeitsoutlinetothelaser,movingitswingsupanddownorsimplywalkingaway.
