Christiansen’scompanycontinuedtomakewoodentoysuntil1942whenfirestruck—theentireLegofactoryburnedtotheground.Unwillingtogivein,thefactorywasrebuiltandtheproductionlinerestartedsoonafter.By1954,Christiansen’sson,Godtfred,hadbecomethejuniormanagingdirectoroftheLegoGroup.Itwasduringhiscooperationwithanoverseasbuyerthathewasstruckbytheideaofatoysystem.

Forover30years,theLegoCompanymadeonlytoysandrelatedgoods.Then,in1968,thecompanyopeneditsfirstLegolandinDenmark.CombiningtheLegobuildingbrickswithacomputer,theRoboticsInventionSystem1.5isnowthemostadvancedtoyintheLegoCompany,whichistargetedatusersagedtwelveandabove,andthatincludesanyparentsorgrandparentsthatwanttojoinin.
