Ofcourseitgoeswithoutsayingthatpreventionisbetterthancure.Thatiswhy,inrecentyears,therehasbeenagrowingbodyofopinioninfavorofputtingmoreresourcesintohealtheducationandpreventivemeasures.Theargumentisthatignoranceof,forexample,basichygieneorthedangersofanunhealthydietorlifestyleneedstobecombatedbyspecialnationwidepublicitycampaigns,aswellaslong-termhealtheducation.

Obviously,thereisastronghumanargumentforcatchinganymedicalconditionasearlyaspossible.Thereisalsoaneconomicargumentfordoingso.Statisticsdemonstratethecost-effectivenessoftreatingaconditionintheearlystages,ratherthandelayinguntilmoreexpensiveandprolongedtreatmentisnecessary.Then,therearesocialoreconomiccosts,perhapsintermsoflossofearningsforthefamilyconcernedofunemployedbenefitpaidbythestate.

3-2Whenacountrydevelopsitstechnology,thetraditionalskillsandwaysoflifedieout.Itispointlesstotryandkeepthemalive.Towhatextentdoyouagreeordisagreewiththisopinion?

Overall,Idisagreewiththeopinionexpressed.Iwouldliketobeginbypointingoutthattraditionalskillsandwaysoflifearenotautomaticallyofonecountry,butofacultureorcommunity.

Inmanyways,thehistoryofcivilizationisthehistoryoftechnology:

fromthediscoveryoffiretotheinventionofthewheeltothedevelopmentoftheInternet,wehavebeenmovingonfrompreviouswaysofdoingthings.Sometechnologies,suchasweaponsofmassdestruction,areofnegativeimpact.Others,suchasmedicaladvances,positivelyhelppeopletolivebetterorlonger,andsoverymuchhelptraditionalwaysoflife.Surely,fewpeoplewouldseektopreservesuchtraditionsaslivingincaves!

Interestingly,technologycanpositivelycontributetothekeepingaliveoftraditionalskillsandwaysoflife.Forexample,thepopulationsofsomeislandsaretoosmalltohavenormalschools.Ratherthanbreakingupfamiliesbysendingchildrentothemainland,educationauthoritieshavebeenabletousetheInternettodeliverschoolingonline.Inaddition,theInternet,andmodernrefrigerationtechniques,arebeingusedtokeepalivethetraditionalskillsofproducingsalmon;itcannowbeorderedfrom,anddeliveredto,anywhereintheworld.

Inconclusion,withoutsuggestingthatalltechnologyisnecessarilygood,Ithinkitisbynomeans“pointless”,inanyway,totrytokeeptraditionsalivewithtechnology.Weshouldnotignoretechnology,becauseitcanbeourfriendandsupportourwayoflife.

6-GBUsingacomputereverydaycanhavemorenegativethanpositiveeffectsonyoungchildren.Doyouagreeordisagree?

Itendtoagreethatyoungchildrencanbenegativelyaffectedbytoomuchtimespentonthecomputereveryday.Thisispartlybecausesittinginfrontofascreenfortoolongcanbedamagingtoboththeeyesandthephysicalpostureofayoungchild,regardlessofwhattheyareusingthecomputerfor.

However,themainconcernisaboutthetypeofcomputeractivitiesthatattractchildren.Theseareoftenelectronicgamesthattendtobeveryintenseandratherviolent.Theplayerisusuallythe“hero”ofthegameandtoomuchexposurecanencouragechildrentobeself-centeredandinsensitivetoothers.

Evenwhenchildrenuseacomputerforotherpurposes,suchasgettinginformationoremailingfriends,itisnosubstituteforhumaninteraction.Spendingtimewithotherchildrenandsharingnon-virtualexperienceisanimportantpartofachild’sdevelopmentthatcannotbeprovidedbyacomputer.

Inspiteofthis,theobviousbenefitsofcomputerskillsforyoungchildrencannotbedenied.TheiradultworldwillbechangingconstantlyintermsoftechnologyandtheInternetisthekeytoalltheknowledgeandinformationavailableintheworldtoday.Therefore,itisimportantthatchildrenlearnatanearlyagetousetheequipmententhusiasticallyandwithconfidenceastheywillneedtheseskillsthroughouttheirstudiesandworkinglives.

Ithinkthemainpointistomakesurethatyoungchildrendonotoverusecomputers.Parentsmustensurethattheirchildrenlearntoenjoyotherkindsofactivityandnotsimplysitathome,learningtoliveinavirtualworld.

5-2Insomecountriesyoungpeopleareencouragedtoworkortravelforayearbetweenfinishinghighschoolandstartinguniversitystudies.Discusstheadvantagesanddisadvantagesforyoungpeoplewhodecidetodothis.

However,therearecertainlydangersintakingtimeoffatthatimportantage.Youngadultsmayendupneverreturningtotheirstudiesorfindingitdifficulttoreadapttoanacademicenvironment.Theymaythinkthatitisbettertocontinueinaparticularjob,ortodosomethingcompletelydifferentfromauniversitycourse.Butoverall,Ithinkthisislesslikelytoday,whenacademicqualificationsareessentialforgettingareasonablecareer.
