PartOneistheFirstparagraph,whichisthebeginningofthestory.Theparagraphtellsusaboutatallyoungarmyofficer,JohnBlandford,waitingtomeetawomanatsixo'clock.Welearnsomethingstrangehere.Hehasneveractuallyseenherbefore,butthiswomanhasfilledaspecialplaceinhislifeandherwrittenwordshavegivenhimstrength.

Thefirstparagraphmayleadreaderstoaskwhothewomanis,whytheyoungmanshouldwaittoseeher,howshehasgivenhimstrengthandwhattherelationshipbetweentheyoungmanandthewomanis.Thequestionsbuildasortofexpectationforthereaderstocontinuereadingtofindanswers.
