Inactionmovies,weoftenseecharacterswearingspecialglassesthatrevealthingsthatcan’tbeseenindarkness.Everythinglooksgreen,butwecanseetheshapesandoutlinesclearly.Asamatteroffact,thisissomewhatsimilartothewayanimals’nightvision(视力)works.

Youmayhavenoticedeyeshineinpicturesofanimals,orseenitforyourselfwhenlighthitsananimal’seyes.Dogs,cats,andmanyotheranimalshavetissue(组织)calledthetapetumlucidumineacheye.Thepurposeofthistissueistoreflect(反射)lightdeeperintotheeye.Formanyanimals,itleadstotheirexcellentnightvision,andithelpsthemhunt.

Differenttypesofanimalshavedifferentcolorsofeyeshine.Thelightreflectingbackfromtheeyesofdogsandcatsislikelytobeyellow.Ratsandbirdsusuallyhaveeyesthatshinered.Otheranimals’eyesmayreflectwhite,yellow,green,orpinklight.Ineachcase,thecolorisrelatedtothetypeofcells(细胞)thatmakeupthe tapetumlucidum,aswellasthechemicalsinsidethecells.

Eyeshinehasthefunctionofimprovinganimals’nightvision,buthumanshavefoundotherusesforit.Forexample,whenpeoplearesearchingforcertaintypesofanimals,theireyeshinemaybehelpfulinrecognizingordiscoveringthem.Also,eyeshinehasinspiredhumanstoinventsubstances(物质)thatreflectlightatnight.Stripscontainingthissubstanceareusedtowarnusofsafetyriskssuchasraisedpartsofroads.Eventhoughhumanscannotseesowellatnight,wehavestillfoundwaystobenefitfromthisamazinganimalfeature.

NLPwasdevelopedinthe1970satthe University of California inthe U.S. Itsmethodshavebeenemployedinavarietyoffields,includingsales,marketing,andmanagement.IntheUK,atleast50companiesnowoffercoursesinNLP,manyaimedat(以……为目标)teachers.

DaveVizard,authorof MeetingtheNeedsofDisaffectedStudents,saidthetechniquewasanewwaytodealwithpoorbehaviourintheclassroom.

“Matchingbodylanguagemeanslookingattheworldthroughtheyoungpersons’eyes,”hesaid. 

However,somepeoplesaythatNLPisjustanothereducationalfashionthattakesteachers’attentionawayfromgoodteaching.

FrankFuredi,asociologyprofessoratKentUniversity,says, “Everyfewyearsthere’sabigideathatbecomesthetheme(主题)ineducation.

“We’vehadraisingself-respect,multipleintelligence,well-beingandhappiness,andthelatestisNLP.

“Theyaretricksandarethenreplacedwiththenextbigthing.”
