   TheresearchersstudiedsixAfricanelephantsatViennaZooastheymovedbetweenoutdoorandindoorenvironmentstoseehowthetemperatureontheirskinsurfacewouldchange.Theyfoundupto15“hotspots”alloveranelephant'sbodysurface,inadditiontolargepatchesontheears.Thestudyshowshowthesepatchesexpandastheairtemperatureincreasesandmorebloodflowsnearertotheskinsurface.Otherexperimentsshowthatelephantsinthewildusethesame“windows”tocontroltheirbodytemperature.
