Ourcountryisabetterplacebecauseofallthoseheroesdidforus.Butasoneofthoseheroes,CongressmanJohnLewis,remindedusinSelmathispastMarch,“There’sstillworktobedone.”FiftyyearsaftertheVotingRightsAct,therearestilltoomanybarrierstovote,andtoomanypeopletryingtoerectnewones.We’veseenlawsthatrollbackearlyvoting,forcepeopletojumpthroughhoopstocastaballotorleadtolegitimatevotersbeingimproperlypurgedfromtherolls.Overtheyears,wehaveseenprovisionsspecificallydesignedtomakeitharderforsomeofourfellowcitizenstovote.Inademocracylikeours,withahistorylikeours,that’sadisgrace.That’swhy,aswecelebratethe50thAnniversaryoftheVotingRightsAct,I’mcallingonCongresstopassnewlegislationtomakesureeveryAmericanhasequalaccesstothepolls.

It’swhyIsupporttheorganizersgettingfolksregisteredintheircommunities.Andit’swhy,nomatterwhatpartyyousupport,mymessagetoeveryAmericanissimple:
