“Isawinlargequantities;Isawanopportunity,”CEODavidKatztoldtheaudienceattheSustainableBrandsOceansconferenceinPorto,PortugalonNovember14.“Werevealthevalueinthismaterial,”headded.

PlasticBankwasfoundedin2013andlaunchedonthegroundoperationsin202XinHaiti,thepoorestcountryintheWestern,Hemisphere,wherecloseto60%ofthepopulationliveunderthepovertyline.Asresultofpoorwastedisposalandrecyclinginfrastructure(基础设施),plasticwasteentersriversorisburnedandposesthehealththreatstothelocalresidents.

Thecompanysaysihasover2,000collectorsworkinginthecountry,withitsfull-timecollectorsonaverage63%abovethepovertylinethankstotheincometheymakefromtheproject.Throughitsappbasedpaymentsystem,manycollectorsnowhavebankaccountsforthefirsttime,andareabletoultimatelyescapeultrapoverty.
