Over60yearsago,whenaClevelandmannoticedthatsomepeople,suchaschildrenwholosttheirparentsandpatientswholayinbed,toooftenfeltforgottenandneglected(忽视),hedevelopedinhismindtheideaofshowingthemthattheywereremembered.Hedidthisbygivingthemsmallgifts.Withthehelpofhisfriendsandneighbors,hegavethosepeoplesmallgiftsonaSaturdayinOctober.Duringtheyearsthatfollowed,otherClevelandersbegantotakepartinthecelebration,whichcametobecalled“SweetestDay”.Overtime,theSweetestDayideaofspreadingcheerto
thepoor,thesickandchildrenwhohadlosttheirparentswasbroadenedtoincludeeveryone,andbecameanoccasionforrememberingotherswithakindactorasmallgift.SoontheideaspreadtoothercitiesallovertheUSA.
SweetestDayisnotbasedonanysinglegroup’sreligiousbeliefsoronafamilyrelationship.Itisareminderthatathoughtfulwordordeedenricheslifeandgivesitmeaning.
