ThisistheUniversal'sIslandsofAdventurewhichwasopenedin1999,makingUniversalOrlandothenation'ssecondmulti-gatethemeparkresort(afterWaltDisneyWorld).IoAwasUniversal'sfirstnon-studiothemepark,andwasintendedtopaytributetocharactersfrombooks,comics,cartoonsandlegend,ratherthanmovies.

Ofcourse,thathasn'tstoppedUniversalandotherstudiosfrommakingfilmsaboutalmosteverycharacterrepresentedinIoAoverthepastfewyears,renderingtheparkthematicallyindistinguishablefromitssister,UniversalStudiosFlorida.
