Thelittlebabywhale—actuallyasbigasourboat—wasobviouslystuckandcouldnotmove.Themotherdivedunderthewaterandcameupsuddenly,makingbigwhirlpools(漩涡)andwaves.“She’stryingtohelpherbaby,butonthewrongside.”myfathersaid.Atthispoint,myfathermovedourboatinasemicircletotheothersideand,headingtheboattowardsthebabywhale,pusheditgently.Withourseveralgentlepushes,thebighumpturnedoveranddisappearedunderwater.Thenitswamuprightbesideitsmum.Theystruggledintheirdesperateattemptstoescapebutmissedtheexitandstartedheadinginthewrongdirection.Wehurrieduptothewhalesandtriedtoleadthemtowardsthebaychannel.Slowly,theyletusleadthem,sometimesrisingfromthewaterrightbesideustobreathe—andtogiveusatrustinglookwiththosehugeeyes.Oncetheyhittheirfirstpartofcleanwaterflowingstraightfromthesea,themumgaveusawavewithhertailandofftheyswamintothedistance.
