CopingWithFlightDelays
Mostairlinetripsareuneventful;however,airlinesdon'tguaranteetheirschedules,andyoushouldrealizethiswhenplanningyourtrip.Therearemanythingsthatcanmakeitimpossibleforflightstoarriveontime.Someoftheseproblems,suchasbadweatherandresultingairtrafficdelays,arebeyondtheairlines9controlOthers,suchastheneedformechanicalrepairs,cannotbepredicted.Nevertheless,youcantakestepstoreduceyourchancesofencounteringmostproblemsandlimittheireffects.
Whenbookingyourflight,rememberthatadepartureearlyinthedayislesslikelytobedelayedthanalaterflight,dueinparttothe“ripple“effectsofdelaysthroughoutthedayAlso,ifanearlyflightdoesgetdelayedorcanceled,youmayhavemorereroutingoptions.Ifyoubookthelastflightofthedayanditiscanceled,youcouldgetstuckovernight.
Ingeneral,youareleastlikelytobedelayedonnonstopflights.Aconnection（changeofplanes）alwaysinvolvesthepossibilityofamisconnection.Onadirectflight（intermediatestop,nochangeofplanes）,thesecondlegcouldbedelayedorcanceled.Ifyouchooseaflightwithastoporconnection,trytoselectonestoppingattheleast-congestedenrouteairportinordertoreducetheriskofdelayormisconnection.Ybumaywishtotakeintoconsiderationtheseasonalvariationsinweatherifyouhaveachoiceofconnectingcities.Forexarqple,airportsinthesouthmighthavefewerwintersnowstormsbutmorespringandsummerthunderstorms.Whenbookingaconnection,alwayschecktheamountoftimebetweenflights.Askyourselfwhatwillhappenifthe
