Forthisreason,theinternationalcommunityhascommitteditselftogettingalltheworld’schildrenintoprimaryschoolby2015,acommitmentknownasEducationforAll.
Caneducationforallbeachievedby2015?
Theanswerisdefinitely“yes,”althoughitisadifficulttask.Ifweknowmeasurethegoalintermsofchildrensuccessfullycompletingaminimumoffiveyearsofprimaryschool,insteadofjustenrollingforclasses,whichusedtobethemeasuringstickforeducation,thenthechallengebecomesevenmoredifficult.Only32countrieswereformerlybelievedtobeatriskofnotachievingeducationforallonthebasisofenrollmentrates.Thenumberrisesto88ifcompletionratesareusedasthecriterion.
