CreatingacustomimagefortheStandardImagemethodhassevenmajorsteps.Youneedtwocomputerstobuildthecustomimageforthismethod:

Youconfigureyourtoolsonthetechniciancomputerandcustomizeyourimageonthereferencecomputer.Table 1hasacolumnforeachcomputer.YoucompletestepsintheOnthetechniciancomputercolumnonyourowncomputer.YoucompletestepsintheOnthereferencecomputercolumnonthecomputerthatyouareusingtobuildthecustomimage.

Thefollowingsectionsprovidedetailedinstructionsforeachstep.Tousetheseinstructions,youmusthavetheWindows 7VolumeLicensingmedia,twoUSBflashdisks（UFDs）thatyoucanusetostartcomputers（8 gigabytes[GB]orlarger,dependingonthesizeoftheWindows 7imageyoucreate）,andareferencecomputeronwhichyoucanbuildandcustomizethestandardimage.Youwillbeformattingthereferencecomputer’sdisk,somakesureyoubackupimportantfilesifyouareusinganexistingcomputerforthispurpose.

InstalltheWindows AIK

TheWindows AIKprovidesthetoolsrequiredtobuildcustomWindows 7images.Inparticular,itincludesImageX,whichyouusetocaptureanimageofthereferencecomputer,andthefilesnecessarytobuildaWindows PEstartupdisk.

First,downloadtheWindowsAutomatedInstallationKit（AIK）forWindows7fromtheMicrosoftDownloadCenter（

ThefileKB3AIK_EN.isoisanInternationalOrganizationforStandardization（ISO）imagethatyoumustburntoaDVDormounttoavirtualmachine.Windows 7canburnISOfilestoDVDs.Formoreinformation,seeTip:

ToinstalltheWindows AIKfromtheWindows AIKDVD

1.OpentheWindows AIKDVDinWindowsExplorer.

2.PerformoneofthefollowingtasksbasedonthecomputeronwhichyouareinstallingtheWindows AIK:

∙Ifyourcomputerisa32-bitcomputer,right-clickwAIKX86.msi,andthenclickInstall.

∙Ifyourcomputerisa64-bitcomputer,right-clickwAIKAMD64.msi,andthenclickInstall.

3.ClickNext.

4.OntheLicenseAgreementpage,clickIAgree,andthenclickNext.

5.OntheSelectInstallationFolderpage,clickNexttoinstalltothedefaultinstallationfolderforanyonewhousesthecomputer.

6.OntheConfirmInstallationpage,clickNexttobegininstallation.

7.ClickClosetofinishinstallation.

CreateaBootableUFD

YouusethebootableUFDthatyoucreateinthissteptostartthereferencecomputersoyoucancaptureanimageoftheharddiskafteryouinstallandcustomizeWindows 7.Windows PEdoesnotincludeImageX,sotheseinstructionsincludeastepforcopyingImageX.exefromtheWindows AIKinstallationfoldertotheWindows PEsourcefilesbeforeyoucreatetheWindows PEISOfile.

TocreateabootableUFDwithWindows PE

1.ClickStart,pointtoAllPrograms,andthenclickMicrosoftWindows AIK.

2.Right-clickDeploymentToolsCommandPrompt,andthenclickRunasadministrator.

3.ClickYestoopentheDeploymentToolsCommandPromptwindowwithelevatedpermissions.

Tip   YoucancopyandpastecommandsfromtheseinstructionsintotheDeploymentToolsCommandPromptwindow.Doingsosavestimeandhelpsensurethatyourunthecommandcorrectly.

4.IntheDeploymentToolsCommandPromptwindow,performoneofthefollowingtasks,andthenpressENTER:

b.Fromthelistofdisks,identifythenumberoftheUFD.Itisimportantthatyouidentifythecorrectdisk,asyouwillbeformattingthedisk.MakesurethesizeandfreespacematchwhatyouexpectfortheUFD.

c.Typeselectdisknumber,wherenumberisthedisknumberoftheUFD,andthenpressENTER.

d.Typeclean,andthenpressENTER.

e.Typecreatepartitionprimary,andthenpressENTER.

f.Typeselectpartition1,andthenpressENTER.

g.Typeformatfs=fat32quick,andthenpressENTER.

h.Typeactive,andthenpressENTER.

i.Typeexit,andthenpressENTER.
