Thisdocumentprovidestheresolutionsforcomment999,1000,1001,1002,1003,1004,1005,1006,1007,1008,1009,1010,1011,1012,1013,1014,1015,1016,1017,1018,1019and1020.ThisdocumentprovidestextchangeforSection9.2.3.

ChannelClassificationandSelection

TheSMshallassigntheoperatingchanneltotheMAC/PHYmodulesintheWRAN.TheSMshallalsodefinethebackupchannel(s)andtheircorrespondingpriorities.Therestofthechannelsthatarepotentiallyavailableforoperation,butthatarenotselectedastheoperatingchannelorasbackupchannel(s),maybeclassifiedascandidate,protectedordisallowedchannel(s).Thechannelsmaybeclassifiedusingthefollowingcategories:

Available:

channelsavailableforconsiderationforpotentialWRANoperationatagivenlocationaccordingtheincumbentdatabases,ifsuchdatabasesexist.ChannelsnotdeemedavailablebythedatabasesareprecludedforusebyWRANs.Ifnoincumbentdatabaseexists,allchannelsareconsideredavailable.Availablechannelsarefurtherclassifiedintooneofthefollowingcategories:

∙Disallowed:

channelsthatareprecludedfromusebytheoperatorduetooperationalorlocalregulatoryconstraints.

∙Operating:

thecurrentchannelusedforcommunicationbetweenBSandCPEswithinaWRANcell.Inordertoprotectincumbents,theoperatingchannelshallbesensedatleastevery2secondsforwirelessmicrophoneandIEEE802.22.1wirelessbeacon.

∙Backup:

channelsthathavebeenclearedtoimmediatelybecometheoperatingchannelincasetheWRANneedstoswitchtoanotherchannel.TheBSmaymaintainmultiplebackupchannelsatanygiventimeandshallorderthemaccordingtotheirrelativepriorities.Backupchannelsshallbesensedforincumbentdetectionatleastonceevery6seconds.AchannelcanstayinthebackupchannellistaslongasnoincumbentisfoundonthischanneltowardswhichharmfulinterferencecouldbeproducedbytheWRANtransmission.

∙Candidate:

channelsthatarecandidatestobecomeabackupchannel.ThesearechannelsthattheBSmayrequesttheCPEstosensetoevaluatethepossibilityofelevatingthemtoabackupchannelstatus.Althoughsensingofcandidatechannelscouldbeinfrequent,beforeacandidatechanneliselevatedtobackupchannel,itmustbesensedasincumbent-freeatleastevery6secondsfornolessthan30seconds.IfthefirstchannelinthelistcanbeconfirmedclearofanyincumbentoperationtowardswhichharmfulinterferencecouldbeproducedbytheWRANtransmissionwithintherequiredtimeperiod,thebasestationcanmoveittothebackuplistifneeded.TheconstitutionofthecandidatechannellistreliesontheextratimethattheCPEswillhavetodosensingbeyondwhatisrequiredtoclearthebackupchannellist.

∙Protected:

channelsinwhichtheincumbentortheWRANoperationhavebeendetectedthroughsensing.ProtectedchannelsmaybemovedtothecandidatechannelsetintheeventthattheincumbentortheWRANsystemshavevacatedthechannel.Sensingisneededtodeterminewhethertheincumbentisstillpresentonthechannel,butsensingcouldbeinfrequentinthesechannels.Aprotectedchannelmayalsobecomeabackupchannel,butbeforeaprotectedchanneliselevatedtobackupchannelstatus,itmustbesensedasincumbent-freeatleastevery6secondsfornolessthan30seconds.TheSMshould,whenpossible,identifythetypeofsignaloccupyingeveryprotectedchannel(see9.2.5).

∙Unclassified:

channelsthathavenotbeensensed.ThesechannelsmaybesensedaccordingtotheSMimplementation.Onceanunclassifiedchannelhasbeensensed,itmaybere-classifiedasprotectedorcandidatechanneldependingonthesensingresults.

Fortheabovechannelsetdefined:

“Disallowed”,“Operating”,“Backup”,“Candidate”,“Protected”and“Unclassified”channelsets,andallsetsareexclusivetoeachother,i.e.,achannelcannotbelongtomorethanoneofthesesixsets.However,becauseoftheWRANself-coexistencemechanism,anoperatingchannelforoneWRANsystemcanalsobetheoperatingchannelofanotherWRANsystem(‘coexistence’)orbelongtoitsbackuporcandidatelistasexplainedin6.23.3.1.

Thespecificalgorithmsforselectingtheoperatingchannelanddefininghowthebackupandcandidatechannelsareprioritizedisoutsidethescopeofthisstandardaslongastheseimplementationsmeetthesensingrequirements.However,anyimplementationofthesealgorithmsshalluseasinputcurrentchannelavailabilityinformation(asdescribedin9.2.2).Furthermore,othercriteriamayalsobetakenintoaccountbytheimplementation,suchastrafficrequirements,locationinformation,andcoexistencewithneighboringWRANs.

EachchannelontheavailableTVchannellistthatisreturnedfromthedatabaseservice(section9.7.1.8)belongstooneofthepossiblechannelsetsintheBS.Attheendofthequietperiod,dependingontheactivityofincumbentusersandchannelqualityeachchannelmaytransittoothersetsasshownbythestatetransitiondiagramshowninFigure177.Thetransitiondiagramconsistsof5statesand9events.The5statesaredescribedinSection9.2.3.NotethatthesestatesareclassifiedusingspectrumsensingresultsduringWRANinitializationandoperation.Therefore,disallowedandunavailablechannelsareomittedinthisstatetransitiondiagrambecausethosechannelsareclassifiedbyopratororincumbentDB.Possibleeventsforeachstatetransitionaredescribedasfollows:

Event1:

ThechannelintheOperating,Backup,Candidate,orUnclassifiedsetsbecomesamemberoftheProtectedsetifanincumbentappearsintheincumbentdatabaseorisdetectedusingspectrumsensing.

Event2:

IncumbentserviceorotherWRANreleasesthechannel.

Event3:

ThepoorestchannelintheBackupsetbecomesamemberoftheCandidatesetasitsqualityisworsethanthatofanewmemberoftheBackupset.Itcanalsooccurwhenanincumbenthasappearedduringthelast30seconds.

Event4:

ThechannelisreleasedduetotheterminationoftheWRANusageanditsqualityisworsethanthatoftheexistingmembersoftheBackupset.

Event5:

ThechannelbecomesOperatingbyitsnewallocationtotheWRANservice.

Event6:

IfthechannelqualityisbetterthanthatofanexistingmemberoftheBackupset,thenitreplacesthismemberoftheBackupset.Also,allthesechannelssatisfythatnoincumbentappeareddurin
