  amongthe200millionmigrantworkers,60percentofthemareyoungpeople.theyfindthemselvessortofsandwichedbetweentheurbanareasandtheruralareas.mostofthemdontwanttogobacktothecountryside,buttheydonthavethesenseofbelonging.theyworkforlongerhourswithlessincome,lesssocialwelfare.andtheyremorevulnerabletojoblosses,subjecttoinflation,tighteningloansfrombanks,appreciationoftherenminbi,ordeclineofdemandfromeuropeoramericafortheproductstheyproduce.lastyear,though,anappallingincidentinasouthernoemmanufacturingcompoundinchina:

13youngworkersintheirlateteensandearly20scommittedsuicide,justonebyonelikecausingacontagiousdisease.buttheydiedbecauseofalldifferentpersonalreasons.butthiswholeincidentarousedahugeoutcryfromsocietyabouttheisolation,bothphysicalandmental,ofthesemigrantworkers.

  forthosewhodoreturnbacktothecountryside,theyfindthemselvesverywelcomelocally,becausewiththeknowledge,skillsandnetworkstheyhavelearnedinthecities,withtheassistanceoftheinternet,theyreabletocreatemorejobs,upgradelocalagricultureandcreatenewbusinessinthelessdevelopedmarket.soforthepastfewyears,thecoastalareas,theyfoundthemselvesinashortageoflabor.
