Still,mostofusdo,atleastsomewhat,andfindourselvesfardiminishedforit.
Insum,Ithinkit'ssafetosaythatmuchinthisworldmeritsnotevenacursoryexamination,andthoseamongusarewiserandhappierwhocansuccessfullybudgettheirtimeandenergyinordertoavoidnegativity.

Thisisathoughtful,well-articulatedanalysisoftheissue.
Theresponseopenswithaclearendorsementofthestatedclaim,alongwithanacknowledgementthatwisdominvolvesadditionaltraits.Thewriterthenbeginsbuildinganargumentthatmodernlifeissofullof"pettyannoyances"thatitwouldbe"self-defeating"topaymuchattentiontothem.Using,first,examplesthatillustratethetrivialdemandsencounteredeveryday(e.g.,paperwork,trafficjams),theanalysismovesontopersonaltypesofexperiences(apartner抯annoyinghabits;anaunt抯self-pity)andthentopolitics,where,thewriterimplies,Nixonmethispoliticaldemiseatleastpartlybecauseofhisobsessionwith"minutiaeandtheunimportant."Theexamplesclearlysupportthewriter抯positionandleadeffectivelytotheconcludingobservationaboutlearningto"budget"ourtimeandenergytoavoidthenegativeaspectsoflife.

Neverbeforeinhistoryhavepeoplebeensobesetwiththeoverflowofideasandimagesthatthemodernhumanmustendure.Weareconstantlybombardedwithnews,advertising,andentertainment,somuchsothatweareoftenatalossastowhereweshouldfocusourattention.Thishasleadtowhatmanymediacriticshavecalled"informationanxiety,"atermusedtodiscribetheparalysistheordinaryhumanexperienceswhenattemptingtoorganizeandsynthesizethevastamountsofdatathatmovepasthereveryday.Now,morethaneverbefore,itcanbeseenthatwisdomtrulyisattributabletothose"whoknowwhattooverlook."
TheInternetisagoodexampleoftheeffectsofinformationoverloadonpeople.Manypeoplerecievehundredsofemailmessagesaday,yetthereisnopossiblewayforthemtorespond,letaloneread,allofthesemessages.Throughpracticetheylearntopickoutwhatwillbeofinterestandtoignoretherest.Asimilarphenomenaoccurswhenapersonis"browisingtheweb."Information,bothtrivialandprofound,floatbyinadisorganizedway.Apersonlearnstoignorewhatisnotrelevanttotheirsearch.ThisiseasilydemonstratedbywatchingapersonnewtotheInternetnexttosomeonewhoisaveteranofthenet.Thenewpersonwillstumbleonloadsofirrelevantinformationwhiletheveteranwillmostlikelyproceedtotheinformationsheseeks.Thisabilitytooverlookuselessinformationisnotonlyapplicabletothenet;considertheolderbutmoreestablishedformofinformationknownasthebook.
EversinceGuttenbergrolledouthisfirstfewpagesfromhispresshumanshavebeenwonderinghowtosynthesizeallthisknowledge.Eachyearmoreandmorebooksarewrittenandpublished,moreandmoreinformationisavailabletothepublicthroughbookstoresandlibraries,andeachyeartheaveragepersonmuststrugglehardertofindwhatsheneedstoknow..Thisisoneoftheprimaryreasonspeoplearesenttocollege:
theyaretaughthowtoaccessandresearchinformationtheyneed.
Itisonlythroughexperiencethatoneunderstandshowtooverlookuselessdata.Thisismostlikelywhattheauthoroftheabovequotemeant.

Beginningwithastrongdescriptionofthecurrentstateofinformationoverload,thefirstparagraphprovidesacontextfortheissueandtakesaclearpositionagreeingwiththestatedclaim.TheInternetexampleiswellchosenandwelldeveloped,clearlysupportingthepointthatwisdominvolveslearningtoignorewhatisnotrelevant.Thereferencetobooksreinforcesthispositionbutdoeslittletoadvancetheargumentoraddinsightfulanalysis.Theconclusionrestatesanearlierpoint,addinglittletotheanalysis.

Idisagreewiththeopinionexpressedabove,inthatIfeelthatthestatementisomittingaverybigpartofwhatlearningisallabout.Ifirmlybelievethatwisdomisgainedbycarefulobservationofallthatisaroundusinourlives.Wegainagreatdealbywatchingthosearoundus,orbyobservingoursurroundings,aswellaswatchingtheassemblyofanobject.Allmylife,Ihavelearnedagreatdealbybeingveryobservantofpeopleandtheirreactionstocertainsituations,ortoproceduresthataretobefollowed.Beingobservanthashelpedtremendouslyintravellingaswell,sinceithashelpedmerecallcertainlandmarkstoknowifIamgoinginthecorrectdirection.Itistruethatifwepaytoomuchattentiontoinsignificantdetail,weclutterourmindswithtoomuchthatisunnecesssary.Instead,weshouldhavemoretimetodevoteourattentiontothatwhichismeaningful.Inthefieldofscience,weteachourstudentstobeobservant,andtolookforspecificreactions.Iftheydon'tlearntowatchcloselyandrecordtheirdataprecisely,theirresultswillbelessthanadequate,andtheirdatawillmostlikelynotbeveryaccurateordependable.Thestatementabovehasmerit,butitdoesn
