OverviewofQuanzhouTouristry

Quanzhouisawell-knownhometownforoverseasChineseandamajorityoftheHanpopulationinTaiwanese.Thetotalpopulationinthemunicipalityisover6.7million.About9millionofHannationalityinTaiwanareoriginallyfromQuanzhou.Inrecentyears,thenumberofvisitorsfromTaiwan,HongKongandMacaohasbeenincreasing.Theycomebackforpilgrimagetotheirvisitancestors’graves,visittheirfamiliesandfriends,makeinvestmentsandconductbusinessandsightseeing.ThishasgreatlypromotedthesocialandeconomicdevelopmentinQuanzhou.

Quanzhouisoneoffirst24importantnationalhistoricandculturalcitiesannouncedbytheStateCouncil.FromTangDynastytoYuanDynasty,“CitongPort”inQuanzhouwasoneofthemajorportsforforeigntrade.Itwasthedeparturepointof“marinesilkroute”andenjoyedthegrandreputationof“largestorientalport”.Thecityhasnumerousfamousscenicspots,culturalandhistoricrelics.Among399protectedculturalrelicsinthecity,12areofstateleveland37areofprovincelevel.

1.ChongwuAncientTown  

AsaNationalAAAAscenicspot,ithasgainedthereputationof“naturalfilmstudio”and“BeidaiheintheSouth”.ItislocatedatChongwuTownship,thecoastaljagintheeastofHui-anCounty.

Thesitecoversanareaof300Mu,windingalongthecoastline,composedofChongwuancienttown,Hui-anwomenglamour,thegranitecarvingmuseum,andEarthArt.Thewell-preservedT-shapedcitywallofChongwuancienttownislocatedonjusttheoppositeofthescenicspot.Itisregardedas“caseoftheancientsystematiccivilworkduetoitsuniquearchitecture.TheareahasbeenlistedbyprovincialtourismBureauasthekeyconstructionprojectfortourismandannouncedbyQuanzhouMunicipalGovernmentasthefirstbatchoffamousscenicspots,receivingoveronemilliontouristseachyear.

2.QingyuanMountain  

ThisnationalkeyscenicspotlocatedinthenorthsuburbofQuanzhouis2kmfromthedowntownanddirectlyaccessiblebybus.Thesightisknownas“No.1PenglaiMountaininFujianProvince”andthe“BackgardenofQuanzhou”.

Thescenicsightcoversatotalareaof62km2,consistingQingyuanMountain,JiuriMountain,Lingshansecrettomb,andXibeiyang.QingyuanMountainhasthreenationalkeyculturerelicslocatedon8sites.Themostattractivesiteisthegiantgranitestatueofanoldgentleman,whichis5.63metershigh,6.85metersthickand8.01meterswide.Coveringanareaof55m2,itisthelargestTaoistgranitestatueexistingatpresentinChina.Inaddition,therearealsoIslamictombsinSongDynasty,QifengrockcalligraphygrouponJiuriMountain,thegranitestatueof“Sanshifu（Three-generationBuddha）”ofTibetanBuddhismofYuanDynasty,thegiantgranitestatueof“Amituofu”,andtheBuddhistrelicsofHongyimaster,theseniormonkinmodernhistory,andtheBuddhistrelicsofHui-annativeGuanqinmastermonkwhichisbroughtbackfromTaiwan. ThemountainhasgatheredrockcalligraphiesofTaoism,Confucius,Buddhism,Muslim,Muni,aswellasmanyfinecalligraphysinceTangandSongDynasties,hencethenameof“MuseumofStoneCarving”.

3.LingMountainSacredTomb  

Nationalkeyculturalrelics,itislocatedonLingMountaininFengzeDistrictForestPark.ItisthebestprotectedMuslimrelicsexistinginChina.

Coversanareaof300m2,theexistingtombisapagodashapedIslamictomb,locatedinthenorthandfacingthesouth.Thetomb,measuring2.15meterlong,1.1meterswideand0.6meterstall,isstructuredinthreelayers.Ontheeast,westandnorthofthetombarehorse-shoeshapedprotectioncloistersfor9chamberswhichare11meterswideand1.04metersdeep.Insidethecloisters,thereare5monumentstonesofdifferentdynasties.Infrontthereisashining-greenmonumentstonecarvedwithArabiclanguage.OntherightitisthemonumentstonewhichwaslaidwhenZhenghecametoburnjosssticksbeforehestartedthe5thvoyageexpedition.

TotheArabworld,thetombontheLingMountainisthethirdimportantsacredtomb,nexttoMuhammad’stombinMeccaandAriTombinIraq.

4.QingjingMosque  

Nationalkeyculturerelics,itislocatedinthemiddlesectionofTumenStreet,LichengDistrict,coveringanareaof2500m2.

QingjingMosquefacesthestreetintheSouth,withapointeddomeroof.Thedomehasthreelayers:

inside,middleandoutside.Ontheexternalwall,thereisastatueonthetop,whichiscarvedwith“Alcoran”inArabic.ThebackwallofthemosqueiscarvedwithancientArabicscript,recordingthetimeofconstructionandrepairandthebuilders.Inthemosque,thereisastonecarvingoftheemperor’sinstructionabouttheprotectionoftheIslamicmosqueinYongleYear5ofMingDynasty（1407）.Ontopofthemosquegate,thereisaplatformnamed“platformlookingatthemoon”whichisbuiltwithbricksintheshapeofdual-square.

5.KaiyuanTemple  

Nationalkeyculturerelics,itisa1000-yearoldtemple,famousinChinaandoverseas.BuildinWuzetianChuigongYear2ofTangDynasty（Year686）,thetempleisLocatedintheweststreetofLinchengDistrict,Quanzhou,FujianProvince.Thetemplehasahistoryofover1300years,coveringanareaof78,000m2. 

KaiyuanTempleisevenlylaidinstructure.Startingfromthegate,therearetheHallofHeavenKing,PrayingPavilion,eastandwestCorridors,thePreciousHallofGreatHero,Ganlujietan,andscripturestore-room.Thebuildingsarelaidspectacularlyandneatlyinaline.InsideKaiyuanTemple,therestoodtheeastpagodaandthewestpagoda,whicharealsocalledZiyuncouplepagodas.TheeastpagodaisnamedZhenguoPagoda,whichwasmadefromthewoodinitiallyandlaterreplacedbythebrickattheheightof48.24meters.ThewestpagodaisnamedRenshoupagoda,whichwasbuiltfromthetimbersentbyWangShenzhi,thekingofFujian.Itwasnamed“emotalpagoda”.ItwasreplacedbybrickstructureinthenorthernSongDynastyandchangedagaintostonepagodaintheSouthernSongDynastyattheheightof44.06meters.Thewestpagodawasbuilt10yearsearlierthantheeastpagoda

6.LuoyangBridge  

ANationalculturalrelicslocatedoverLuoyangRiver,20kmnortheastoffQuanzhou.Theconstructionofthebridgestartedin1053andwascompletedin1059.Itslengthis834metersandwidth,7meters,with31piers.Onthetwosidesofthebridge,therearefences,ontopofwhichtherestanddelicatelycarvedlionstonestatues.Thebridgeisalsodecoratedwith7pavilions,9pagodasandknightstatuesstandingateachend.Withtheuniquearchitecture,thebridgeisfamousbothathomeandabroadandhasgainedthereputationof“No.1bridgeacrossthesea”. 

Ontheoutsideofthebridge,thereare500carvedstonerailingsand28carvedstonelions,symbolizing28famouscraftsmen;and81Buddhastatues,includingtheMoonBuddha.Onthenorthofthebridge,thereisacourtyard,whichisknownastheNo.1courtyardinthesouthofFujianProvince. 

7、AnpingBridge  

AnationalkeyculturereliclocatedatAnhaiTownofJingjiangCity,FujianProvince,accesstothehighwaybetweenFuzhouandXiamenandthenationalroadNo324.AnpingBridgeextendsoverthebaybetweenAnhaiTownshipofJingjiangandShuitouTownshipofAnhai.TheconstructionofthebridgestartedinShaoxingYear8ofSongDynasty（1138）andcompletedinShaoxingYear22（1152）.Madeofgranitepiers,thebridgeis2700meterslonganditwasthelongestbridgeintheancienttimes,knownas“nobridgewouldbelongerthanthisbridge”.TheconstructionofAnpingBridgeisunique,becausetheoriginalpiersweredesignedinthreedifferentshapes:

square,semi-boat,andraft.Thefoundationofthebridgeadopted“sunkenfoundationcoveredbywood”andwoodenpilesrespectivelyaccordingtothedifferentearthlayer.Thesurfaceofthebridgewaslaidwithgraniteslatesof5-11meterslongand4.5-25tonseach.Thebridgesurfacewaslaidbyutilizingtherisingandfallingofthetide.

8.ShiniuMountain  

ANationalgeographicalParkandnationalforestparklocatedintheterritoryofDehua,inthemiddleofFujianProvinceandthesoutheastpartofmidDaiyunMountainrange.

ShiniuMountainisfamousforitsviciouscliff,strange-shapedrocks,strange-lookedtreesandmysteriouscaves.Inthepark,therearehighmountainsandadenseforest,withhumidclimate,excellentnaturalenvironment,andbio-diversity.Itisakingdomofplantsandparadiseofanimals.

ThemajortourismattractionsincludethemainpeakofNiushiMountain,Daixiandoublewaterfalls,bambooraftdriftingonTaoxianStream,rubberboatdriftingonShilongStream,Tadouhotspring,Peach-flowerIsland,therelicsofFujianProvincialCommitteebuilding.

9.NiumuForestEcologicalSightseeingZone  

AsaNationalAAAAscenicspotandprovincialnaturalreserve,itislocatedatXiayangtown,thewestofYongchunCounty,QuanzhouofFujianProvince.

NiumuforestistheextensionofDaiyunMountainwithanattitudeof1,105meters.ItisthelargestandbestpreservedprimaryforestatpresentinSouthChina.ThemainsightseeingareainNiumuforestecologicalzonecovers1,000ha,consistingover40scenicspots.Themostfamoussitesaretheecologicalandscientificpopularizationmuseum,orchidgarden,YongchunTangerineorchard,QingqianLiuleGarden,CuckooCastle,boardroot,strangledkilling,parasiticcaulineflower,Fujianphoebetrees,yew,foliage,Woniutan,Zhonglidizhu,Konggulaifeng.Theentertainmentactivitiesofferedfortouristsincludecableslidingathighaltitude,grassskifashion,mockhunting,standardshooting,archery,andjunglefieldoperation.
