Theautomobilegavepeoplethefreedomtotravelanywheretherewerepassableroads.Familiesthatlivedgreatdistanceapartcouldtravelbyautomobiletovisiteachother.Peoplecouldvisitplacestheyhadneverseenbefore.

Beforethemassproductionofcars,peoplelivedclosetowork.Theirmeansoftransportationincludedwalking,ridingabicycle,usingahorseandcarriage,ortakingatrain.Theautomobilegavepeopletheabilitytolivefartherawayfromwork.Theresultwasthatgraduallypeoplemovedoutofthecitiestothelesscrowdedsuburbs.
