Bamwasmostfamedforitscenturies-oldcastlemadeentirelyofmudbricks,clay,strawandthetrunksofpalmtrees.ThecastlewassobigthatitwasoncethecityofBamitself.Publichousinglineditsgroundlevel;amarketplaceandtwomosques(清真寺)alsofitcomfortablyinside.
