Theteamofresearchersconductingthestudyanalyzeddataon400,000U.S.menandwomen,aged50to71years;theindividualshadparticipatedintheNIH-AARPDietandHealthStudy.Thisstudystartedin1995-1996andwastrackeduntilthedayaparticipantpassedaway,orDec.31,2008.

Accordingtoapressreleaseonthereport,researcherssharedthatcoffeedrinkersare“lesslikelytodiefromheartdisease,respiratorydisease,stroke,injuriesandaccidents,diabetes,andinfections,althoughtheassociationwasnotseenforcancer.”

Resultsindicatedparticipantsthatdrankthreeormorecupsofjavaadayreducedtheirriskofdeathby10percent.Basedonthefindingsthatbothcaffeinatedandnon-caffeinatedcoffeefoundsimilarresults,researchersarethinkingcaffeineisnottheprotectiveingredient(原料),althoughwhichingredientincoffeemightbe,theyarenotsure.

Researchersindicatethatdespitetheseobservationalfindings,theycautionitisnotclearwhetherornotdrinkingcoffeeactuallyextendslifeexpectancy.

“CoffeeisoneofthemostwidelyconsumeddrinksinAmerica,buttheassociationbetweencoffeeconsumptionandriskofdeathhasbeenunclear.Wefoundcoffeeconsumptiontobeassociatedwithlowerriskofdeathoverall,andofdeathfromanumberofdifferentcauses,”saidNealFreedman,Ph.D.,DivisionofCancerEpidemiologyandGenetics,NCI.

“Althoughwecannotinferarelationshipbetweencoffeedrinkingandlowerriskofdeath,webelievetheseresultsdoprovidesomecomfortthatcoffeedrinkingdoesnotadverselyaffecthealth,”Freedmansaid.
