Abstract
D.H.LawrenceasoneofthemostfamousnovelistsinEnglishhistoryisknownforhisnovelsSonsandLoversandLadyChatterley’sLover,inwhichmostresearchesonJocastacomplexweremade.Lawrence’sbest-knownshortstoriesinclude“TheCapital’sDoll”,“TheFox”,“TheLovelyLady”and“ThePrincess”.TheshortfictiontheLovelyLadyisoneofhislaterworks,anditisaboutalovelyladywhocontrolshersonwithherstrongmotherlylove,whichleadsherstrongpsychologicaldependence,andwhichmakeshersonsunabletohavethenormallovewithothergirlsandevenmakesthemloselife.Finallyhersecrethasbeenfound,andhersecondsonextricateshimselffromhercontrol.
Atpresent,therearesomanyresearchesofhisworks.AndabouttheabnormalloveinLawrence’sworks,mostresearchespaidmoreattentiontotheboy’sstrongloveforandattachmenttohismotherandconsequentjealousyandhatredtowardshisfather—Oedipuscomplex.Onthecontrary,therearefewresearchesaboutthestrongloveofamothertoherownson,whichiscalledJocastacomplex.SoexploringJocastacomplexintheLovelyLadywillhaveimportantacademicvalueandpracticalsignificance.Fromtheviewofmother,throughanalyzingthereflectionofJocastaComplexoftheheroineinthelovelylady,thispaperaimstoprovethetragedyoftheheroineiscausedbyherJocastaComplex.

Ⅰ.Introduction
D.HLaurencewasknownas“oneofthegreatestpersonageshistoryofEnglishliterature”.Abouthisworks,peopleknowmoreabouthislongnovellikethesonandlovers,andabouttheabnormallovebetweenmotherandson,aboutOedipuscomplex.
Meanwhile,Oedipuscomplex,inFreud’stheory,revealsadesireofpeople,whichisaroundpeopleinapotentialwayandinfluencespeople’sgrowth.However,Freudonlysaysoneaspectofthisproblem,whiletheothersideoftheproblemdoesn’tappearintheOedipuscomplex,butintheabnormalloveofmothertoson,thereisaspearpsychologyofmother.Ontheonehand,theywanttheirchildrentogrowupquickly;ontheotherhand,whenthechildrengrowup,theyareafraidoflosingthem;andtheyevenhaveapsychologicaldependenceontheirchildren.
“In1920,RaymonddeSaussure introduceditbywayofanalogytoitslogicalconverseinpsychoanalysis,anditmaybeusedtocoverdifferentdegreesofattachment, includingdomineeringbutasexualmotherlove–somethingperhapsparticularlyprevalentwithanintelligentsonandanabsentweakfatherfigure.”1
SothispaperwillintroduceoneoftheshortnovelsofLaurenceaboutJocastacomplexinthelovelylady.TheJocastaComplexisonesignificantreasonwhichleadstotheheroine’stragedy.Thispaperwillanalyzethereflectionsandthereasonsthatcausetheheroine’stragedyfromdifferentaspects.Thepaperwilluseseveralapproachestoapprovethethesis,suchasillustration,comparison,andcauseandeffect.

A.IntroductiontoD.H.Laurence
DavidHerbertLawrence (11September1885 –2March1930)wasanEnglishnovelist,poet,playwright,essayist,literarycriticandpainterwhopublishedas D.H.Lawrence.Andheisoneofthemostinfluentnovelistsinthehistoryofwesternliterature.MeanwhileheisoneofthemostuniqueandmostcontroversialwritersintheBritishhistory.
Hewasbornin1885,inaminer’sfamily.Hisfatherwasatotallyilliterateminerandhismotherwasaprimaryschoolteacherwhowasborninanoblefamilyandshewasawomanofstrongcharacterandrefinement.Becauseofthebrokenmarriageofhisparents,D.H.Lawrencewasphysicallyweakandfullofillness.Hehadadeepfeelingwithhismotherwhichwasdifferentfromnormalone.ThismadeLawrencebefamousasawriterwhowrotetheabnormallovethatbetweenmotherandson.UntilNovemberof1910,afterhismotherdiedofillness,Lawrencewentoutofthestrugglingoftheodd-shapedmotherlove.AndhisnovelsonandloversmadeDavidHerbertLawrencebecomefamous.Thereisanautobiographybodynovelwhichisabouthisuniquefamilylifeinearlyyearsthathehadgonethrough.OnelopsidedexperienceoftheminerWalterMaoRuierinthenovelisexactlytheportrayaloftheLawrence'slife.
Furthermorehiscollectedworks,amongotherthings,representanextendedreflectionuponthedehumanizingeffectsofmodernityand industrialisation.Inthem,someoftheissuesLawrenceexploresareemotionalhealth,vitality,spontaneityandinstinct.Hisclassicalshortnovelthelovelyladyisoneofhisworksinwhichhetriedtochangehiswritingstyleintomodernism,whichalsomadeD.HLaurencebecomeoneofthegreatestwritersoftheshortnovels.
B.IntroductiontotheLovelyLady
Thelovelyladytellsastoryaboutalovelyladywhohasstrongfeelingtoherownsonandwantstocontrolherson.Paulineisabeautifulandcharmingladywhohasatwistyheartsandshepreventsothergirlsfrombeinginlovewithhersonswithlie,cheatandridiculeto.Becauseofthis,herfirstsonwasdeadofdepressionandhersecondsonalsoiscontrolledbyherabnormalmotherlove.ThroughthethirdpersonCiss’seye,authormakesthereaderknowtheabnormallovebetweenmotherandson.AndfinallyalsothroughCiss’seye,Pauline’ssecretisrevealed.Paulinealsodiedofthis.
InthenoveltheLovelyLady,theheroineisnamedPaulineAttenborough.Sheisawomanwitheleganttasteandsheisalwayssurroundedbyavarietyofexquisiteartworks.Andshelivesinaquiettownwhichisinalittledaleandsurroundedbysomepleasantgrounds.Herhouseisaquiteexquisitething,too.ToPauline,it’saidealplacetohaveanideallife.
Hereverythingisbeautifulandexquisiteandshelikescollectingartworks,andsheisawomanwhoisfiredwithbeautifulthingsandinotherpeople’seyessheisabeautifulartwork.Astheauthordescribesthat:

That’strue,Paulineisanexcellentwomanwithbeauty,loveliness,hightastyandgreatcharming.“AndPauline,whohadreallyapassionandageniusforliveliness,whetherintextureorformorcolor,hadlaidthebasisofherfortuneonherfather’scollection.Shehadgoneoncollecting,buyingwhereshecould,andsellingtocollectorsandtomuseums.”3Shetreatsherselfverywellandmakesupherselfwell.Shemakesheramodelofperfectwomanatleastintheeyesofthemanshecares.However,herbeautyisnottakenontoeveryone.Afterherhusbanddied,shehasnotmarriedagain.Sheisnotevenknowntohavehadlovers.Ifshedidhavelovers,itisnotamongthemenwhoadmireshermostandpaysherdevoutandopenattendance.Totheseshewasa“friend’.TohernieceCecilia,shedoesnottroubletokeeptheglamour.AndCissisnotbeautiful,andsheisthirty,anddependsonherAuntPauline.Sheonlyshowsherbeautywhen:
