aperfecttimetospendthelasthalfofthelunchhourontheplayground.ManyofthestudentsatTrollKnollSchoolwereenjoyingrecess.Otherswerestillinthecafeteria.TrogmireTrollandhisfriendswereamongthosewhowereenjoyingplaytime.

TroubledTrollwas“it”inafriendlygameofSimonScreams.“Simonscreams,”hescreamed,“eatdirt!

TrogmireTroll,TremorTroll,TantrumTroll,andTrumanTrollallpretendedtoeatdirt.Theyweretoostuffedfromlunchtoreallyeatanydirt.

“Simonscreams,”Troubledcontinuedwithawickedgrin,“Trogmirehasagirlfriend!

Therewasalotoflaughter.TrogmireTrollwasnotlaughing,however.

“Iquitthisstupidgame!

”Trogmireannounced.Hestalkedaway,headingtowardtheschool.Atthatverymoment,TreasureTrollwalkedoutofthebuilding.Shewaswithherfriends,TriviaTrollandTruffleTroll,buthereyeswerefocusedonlyonTrogmire.

Treasureheldasmallfoldedpieceofpaperinherhand.Trogmireattemptedtowalkpastherwithoutacknowledgingthatheevennoticedher.“Hi,Trogmire,”Treasuresaid,andshereachedouttogivehimthepaper.

Trogmirerefusedtoaccepttheoffering.Hekickedtheground,sprayingsandalloverTreasure’spinkdress.“Stayawayfromme,youdumbgirl!

”heyelled.

TrogmirewouldhavebeensatisfiedifTreasurehadkickedsandbackathim.Itwouldhavebeenfineifshehadcalledhimanybadnameintheworld.TrogmirewouldhavefeltluckyifTreasurehatedhim.ButthisdidnotappeartobeTrogmireTroll’sluckyday.

TreasureTrollbrushedthesandoffherdress.ShestoodquietlyforafewsecondsandlookedatTrogmire.Therewasnoexpressionofhatredorevenanger.Shejuststaredathimwitheyesthatshowedonlysadnessanddisappointment.Withoutsayingaword,Treasureturnedaroundandwalkedbacktowardtheschool.Shepausedanddroppedtherejectedpaperintoalargetrashcanthatstoodbythedoor.

TrogmireTrollstoodoutsidetheprincipal’sofficewithalargesheetofpaperinhishand.Theplaygroundmonitor,Ms.TrouncerTroll,hadwrittenalengthynarrativedescribingTrogmire’sbehavior.

BeforeTrogmirecouldknockonthedoor,itopened.Theprincipalwasstandingtherewithabottleofbubblybrownliquidinhishand.“Comeinandhaveaseat,Trogmire,”hesaid.
