TheearliestCarnivaldatesbackto1641,whenthecolonialrulersimplementedadecree2.Accordingtoit,peoplewouldbeencouragedtoparade,danceanddrinkunrestrainedtocelebratethebirthdayofthePortugueseKing.Morethanthreehundredyearslater,theCarnivalhasbecomethemostimportantfolkfestivalofBrazil.

最早的狂欢节追溯到1641年，当时的殖民统治者颁布了一条法令。

法令鼓励民众自由地游行、跳舞及畅饮，来庆祝葡萄牙国王的寿辰。

300多年后，狂欢节已成了巴西民间最重要的节日。

OnFebruary24thofthisyear,the“KingMomo”dressedinbrightorange,tookthegoldkeyofthecityfromthemayor3ofRioDeJaneiro,tosignifythebeginningofCarnival.Duringthefollowingfivedays,the“King,”whoplaysaleadingroleintheCarnival,wouldthrowoutalldailyroutines,sothatpeoplecouldindulge4themselves.

在2月24日，身着鲜橙色服饰的“莫莫王”从里约热内卢市长手中接过城市金钥匙，标志着狂欢节的开始。

接下来的5天，“莫莫王”在狂欢节中率领着人们将日常的常规全部推翻，以使所有人能纵情狂欢。

“KingMomo”isalsoknownas“theKingofCarnival.”Heishand-pickedbyRioresidents.Therewasoncearulethatrequiredthe“King”toweighnolessthan100kg.Today,thereisarulethatthe“King”shouldn'

tbeheavierthan130kg.

“莫莫王”也叫“狂欢节之王”，由里约市民选出。

以前曾有条规定，要求“莫莫王”体重不少于100公斤。

现在，规定变为“莫莫王”不得重于130公斤。

Themain“course”ofthecarnivalistheSambadance.MonthsbeforetheCarnival,someprofessionalSambaschoolswillsetouttocomposemusic,rehearse5dancesanddesigncostumesaccordingtothecurrentthemeoftheCarnival.

狂欢节的“主菜”是桑巴舞表演。

狂欢节开始的前几个月，一些专业的桑巴舞学校便会根据当年的狂欢节主题着手制作音乐、编排舞蹈、设计服饰。

TheCarnivalishighlighted6withtheSambacompetitions,whereeverySambaschoolwouldsendthousandsdancerstoparticipate.Everyschoolhas90minutestodemonstratetheirperformanceandhavethemgradedbyexperts.ThewinnerisgivenonemillionUSdollars.GenerallytheticketsfortheSambacompetitionwouldbesoldoutamonthinadvance.

桑巴舞大赛是狂欢节的高潮，每所桑巴舞学校都会出动数千名舞者参赛，各校有90分钟的时间进行表演，由专家评定成绩，获胜者可以得到100万美元。

通常，桑巴舞比赛的入场券会在一个月前就售光。
