TheBeltandRoadInitiativeisanambitiousefforttoimproveregionalcooperationandconnectivityinatrans-continentalrange.Theinitiativeaimstostrengtheninfrastructure(基础设施),trade,andinvestmentlinksbetweenChinaandsome65othercountries.ItisalsoexpectedtoincreaseBeijing'sinfluenceinthesecountries.

“ThisisakeystepfortheBDSdevelopingfromaChinesehomesystemtoaregionalandthenaglobalnavigationsystem,”saidYangChangfeng,chiefdesigneroftheBeiDousystem.Chinaplanstolaunchanother11BDS-3satellitesbetweentheendof2018and2020.ChinadevelopedtheBDSthroughauniquetechnologicalapproach,contributingChinesewisdomtothetheoryandconstructionofinternationalsatellitenavigationsystems.

Altogether18BDSsatelliteshavebeensentintospacein2018,makingthisyearthemostintensivelaunchoftheBDSsatellites.Theyimprovedtheirworkefficiencybyreformingthemanagementprocess.Thenumberofsatellitestaffatthelaunchcenterhasbeenreducedbynearlyhalf,andthetestingtimebeforelaunchhasbeenshortenedbynearlyathird.IntheCASTproductionbaseinBeijing,severalBDSsatellitesarebeingmanufacturedatthesametime.Theytrytoimproveintelligentmanufacturingcapability,andcutdownproductiontimes.ConstructionoftheBDS-3systemhasaccelerated.

OncetheBDSisfullycompleted,itwillbethefourthglobalsatellitenavigationsystemaftertheUSGPSsystem,Russia’sGLONASSandtheEuropeanUnion’sGalileo.Indiatoo,isbuildingitsnavigationalsystemcalledtheIndianRegional
