FitzgeraldisoneofthemostoutstandingAmericannovelistsinthe20thcentury.TheGreatGatsby,whichwaselaboratelycreatedbyhim,iswidelyconsideredhisfinestwork.ThethesisaimstoanalyzethecharacterofJayGatsby,protagonistofthisnovel,andthustofurtherdiscusshowGatsby’scharacterinfluenceshisdestiny.Theauthorfirstbrieflysummarizesmaincontentofthisnovel,introducesFitzgerald’spersonalexperienceandanalyzesthewritingbackgroundofthisnovelaswellasthesymbolicsignificanceofitstragicoutcome.Inthediscussionparts,theauthordividesGatsby'
