AtChinaCustoms,IwasaninternsothatImustlearnandpractice.Myworkistofamiliarizetherelevantproceduresofworkinginthecompanyandbasicbusinessesaboutclearance.Forme,itpavedthewayformyseekingforajobaboutinternationaltrade.

Onthefirstdaymorning,Iwasintroducedthebriefinformationaboutthecompany.Mysupervisorinitwasreallykindandhetoldmetoberelaxed.Aftermyself-introduction,Iwasdistributedtocomprehensivebusinessdept.Inthisdepartment,themaintaskistocheckthelegalityofthecompanieswhichwanttogothroughthecustomsandfinishtheiroverseastrades.Soatfirst,mysupervisorgaveabookwhichcontainsalmostthewholeknowledgeaboutthebusinessinCustoms.IreadthisbookcarefullyforawholedayandoncethereweresomethingthatIcouldnotunderstandmysupervisororothercolleaguescouldwarmlyandkindlyexplaintome.Asanintern,Ireallygotalotofhelpandcarefromthekindandfriendlycolleagues.Allofthemgavememuchcourageandtreatedmewithmuchpatience.Fornow,Iamreallygratefultothem,especiallymysupervisor.Thereisadiningroominthecompany,soIusuallyhadlunchwiththem,andatthattime,theyalwayschattedwithmetoavoidmyembarrassments.

Thesecondday,mysupervisortoldme,becausemylimitationoftimeofmyinternship,soIjustlearnhowtogetthecompanythroughtheCustomsnamely—clearance.Similarity,hegavemeanotherbookandtoldmetofamiliarizethewholetableofclearance.Intheafternoon,hepatientlyanalyzedtheeveryblankintheformandexplainedtheirfunctions.Afterthat,hegavemeseveralsamplestoreviewwhathetaughtmejustnow.Throughmysupervisor’spatientanalysisandmyreviewafterthat,Igraduallygottoknowhowclearanceoperatesandwhatitsmeaningis.

Actually,mymainjobwastolearnwhatclearanceisandwhatitsmeaningisforthefirstdays.SointhosedaysIwasalwaysconfusingwhymysupervisordidnotgavemearealtaskbutIhadtoreadbooksandaseriesofformseveryday.Ifeltboringatthattime.HoweverIgraduallyrealizedifonlyIunderstoodwhatclearancewascanIreallyhandletheseissueswithaskilledways.

Throughseveralunderstandingaboutclearanceanditsprocedures,mysupervisoraskedmetowatchwhathedidinarealbusiness.Then,hesupervisedmetomanipulateanotherbusiness.Throughthispractice,IdeeplyunderstoodwhattheCustomsrealmeaningis.Tobehonest,IwasnervousatfirstbecauseIwasalwaysafraidofmakingsomemistakesforthedatashouldbeexactlyaccuratewhenloggingthem.Thenextfewdays,Ididsomethingeasyabouttheclearancelikegatheringdata,deliveringmaterialsandofcoursereadingmorebooksaboutCustomsandclearance.ThemoreIdid,themoreIunderstoodwhattodonexteventhoughmysupervisordidnotaskmetodo.Practicemakesperfect.Atthefirstweek,Ihadlearnedalot.

Thefirstweekfinished,Icouldenjoymyweekends.Aftera-weekwork,aweekendseemedmorepreciousforme.

Timepassedby,thesecondweekcame.Inthisweek,Ididmyjoblikelastweeklikereadingrelevantbooks,gatheringdata,anddeliveringmaterialsforthefirstdays.Later,Iwasaskedtotakefurtherstepsaboutmyjob.Whenmysupervisorfinishedabusiness,Iwasaskedtotaketheformtoanotherdepttosealitandthentakebackittohim.Hetoldmethateverystepwasnecessaryintheprocedure,sothatwecouldnotmakeanymistake.Thelastfewdaysintheweek,IrepeatedthisprocedureoverandoveragainuntilIreallyfamiliarizethewholeoperationofclearance.Finally,onFriday,mysupervisorwantedmetodealwithabusinessbymyself.Itriedmybesttoremembereverysteptodealwithitandimitatemysupervisororcolleaguesdid,finishingthebusinessbymyself.IwasgladthatIcoulddoitwithoutanyone’shelp.

Whenitcametothelastweek,Iclearlylearnedhowourcompanyoperatedandwhatfunctioneverypositionhad.Moreorless,Idealtwithseveralbusinessesaboutsomecompanies’clearancesbymyself.Atthattime,Ireallyenjoyedthehappinesstakenfromworkrealizethevalueofmylife.Whatismore,inthatweek,Itranslatedsomecontractsfromsomecompanies’businesses.AsanEnglishmajorstudent,translationismyadvantagesointhattime,IwasgladthatIcouldutilizemymajortofinishmyworkandhelpmycolleaguesdotheirworksuccessfully.

ThereisnodenyingthatIalsolearnedalotfromthedepartment.TheregularworkthereistoreadthebooksandfamiliarizethebusinessofclearanceinordertoknowtheproceduresinCustoms.Severaldayslater,Iwassoluckytogetanopportunitytogooutwiththesupervisor.Ifollowedhimtovisitthenearbycompaniestoexaminecompanies.Fromtheactivity,IreallyunderstoodthehardshipinCustomswhichhadbeenseenasapieceofcakebyme.SolongasIamdeterminedtolearnsomething,Icanconqueranyobstaclesandthenachievemyultimategoals.IwassogladandgratefulbecauseIwastreatedjustlikethestafftrustfully.So,Iholdonebeliefthatattitudedeterminesaltitude.

Timeflies,theendofmyinternshipwasjustaroundthecornerwithoutbeingawareofit.Ideeplyfeelthatstudyingatschoolandworkinginsocietyarequitedifferent.Isincerelythankthiscompanyforprovidingthisgoldenopportunityforme,whichmakesmemoresensibleandexperienced.Finally,Iwasreallygratefulformysupervisor’skindpatienceandmywarmcolleagues.

Thethree-weekinternshipofferedmeachancetohavefirst-handexperienceabouttheknowledgeIpossessedbeingappliedtopractice,whichhasbroadenedmyhorizon.Inowhavesomefeelingsaboutpractice,interpersonalrelationship,persistenceandindependence.
